Going off all of my meds

another option for cheaper meds is the company that makes them. Y'know, those commercials that blather on about "if you can't afford your meds call us"? My brother has had to do that a couple times over the years. You will probably have to google which company makes which drug to find the numbers -- but well worth the time if it can keep you going.

The information was given in multiple replies in this thread.

I have not been getting my alerts and found the information. I belong to a HMO which is Kaiser so my pharmacy is with them and I have to only use their pharmacy to get my meds. I did try a long time to go and get a discount card at a walgreens and they cannot help me because I cannot afford private pay being on a fixed income. Thank you all for the help and support. I am going to talk to my doctor tomorrow and go on Wednesday when I get the money to get some gas in my car and go to the pharmacy and refill my effexor for the month and tell my doc to help me to taper off with that prescription.

That's good news! Kaiser is usually really good about doing whatever they can to keep you going if you end up in the position of not being able to pay for your meds! My mom is on a ton of heart stuff and she's been in this same boat and they just gave her enough to last.... a month I think? it was long enough for her doc to figure out a plan

You might give membership services a call in the morning -- hopefully they will handle it all for you and you won't have deal with figuring it out on your own

@Rain
I went off Effexor cold turkey.
My personal experience learned the hard way was they needed to be taken the same time everyday. Fluctions increase anger outbursts, unexplained bursts of crying...brain zaps, lethargy.... so quitting completely is something you need to educate on yourself as much as possible

I suggest looking up withdrawal symptoms and any other research that you might think of. This way when something like brain zaps start, you know what it is and called.
One of the things I found out is Effexor is a SNRI.

While Paxil for instance is a SSRI.

You might want to look that up too. SNRI vs. SSRI

Hugs,
Alice

Thank you so much Alice. I have been trying to take them religiously at the same time since I got on this. I now have a plan to get the free refill and taper off with my docs help. I will research this because I can use all of the help I can get.
