I just finished Gone Girl maybe ten minutes ago. I'm still pondering if I actually liked the book itself or not. There were parts that I liked, but also a good amount of things that I didn't--the main one being the ending. I've been frustrated with book endings before, but it was usually part of a series that I had to wait for the next installment and the work ended on a cliffhanger...this, however, left me feeling like the ending was quickly put together in order to prevent it from getting too long and drawn out. In the end, Nick took the easy way out by staying, and it was just what Amy always criticized him for, which was just really disappointing.
But I do really like the twists that Gillian Flynn manages to put into her books. I usually like to analyze things from many sides while reading, but Flynn always brings out this mundane twist that I didn't think of, but somehow makes perfect sense!
I guess I liked it, but it probably wouldn't be a book that I'll read again. I hope her next one is better, since I really enjoy her as an author. If you haven't checked out Sharp Objects and Dark Places, you should! I couldn't put either one down until I finished.
KP, I know you said that the ending left you uncomfortable, and I agree. I would've have gladly read more if there was a different ending.
ClairBear, I definitely thought the book dragged on until it got to Amy's narration that weren't diary entries...is that where it got better for you?
