Gone On Vacation; Sick Leave

That's lovely to hear, Seedling! You'll be escaping yet more cold, if you've seen the local news-think all of our area is in some Bizarro World this spring. We'll miss you, and I don't think I'm putting words in other people's mouths, either-it's not just me.You'll arouse much envy with a glowing golden tan when you get back, when the rest of us are still doing the white-to-lobster red routine.

Have a safe, peaceful, restful and much deserved vacation. The Brits call going on vacation ' going on holiday'( or taking a holiday? Forget ), which is a MUCH better phrase- celebratory!

All the best, and hugs,

Anni

Hee- thank you CB- I always loved that turn of phrase! It seemed so completely correct for what it is, like a celebrating thing.

Yes - I suppose it's just a different understanding of phrases. I believe in the US you call things like Thanks-giving and Christmas, (maybe Easter?) as "holiday's", or "holiday season" - where as we just refer to as Christmas or Easter (and we don't have Thanks-giving). If we (Brits) are having a holiday, it's specific to us as individuals, just like your term 'vacation'. Other national days off are described as 'bank holidays' (usually Mondays), so called 'bank holiday Monday', or their specific title, such as August bank holiday, May Day, or Easter Monday etc. I think we have 8 'bank-holidays' in a year. But we're getting an extra one this year for the 'royal wedding' (Wills and Kate)!!

(Sorry this is a little off topic - but I find it interesting)

I like thinking of it as a holiday. Somehow it seems even better than a 'vacation'.

Our 'bank holidays' are often referred to as 'three day weekends' as it's usually a Monday also.

Of course it's a holiday, a vaccination is what you sometimes need to go on holiday and you lot don't even spell that right! Jeez you can't trust the opinion of people who think it's ok to drive on the pavement!:O_o:

Oh and thanks for noticing I was gone when I was on holiday last week, soon find out who your friends are! :p

I thought pavement was specifically laid down for driving on, as opposed to the lawn. Or did you mean Sidewalk?!:) :)

Hope you had fun last week J. ;)

A sidewalk is what Crabs do, and they do it very fast when crossing the ROAD.

Had a very nice time thank's for asking.:)

I just call that crabwalking, but then - that's what people do when they walk like crabs. And I do know what a road is, glad we can agree on that one!

Oh, I hope someone Chit Chats something on the wedding. Yes, I realize there will be some in other countries who will view it as Too Much Fuss but I'm enchanted, I'm sorry! I was there for Diana's- the whole country stopped for that holiday, it was a wonderful day! I watched from 5 a.m. on, to be sure! My son and Prince William were born the same year over there-his birth was a bit of a National Holiday, too, wasn't it? At any rate, do not much care if I'm an old biddy for this, but I'm allowing myself the luxury of 'people-watching' Will and Kate, the preparations, oohh and ahhing shamelessly with the best of them and approve hugely of the bride. :) Off topic, except for the holiday part- sort of ties in? :)
