I often find myself crying at songs that are happy, but I’m having a hard time figuring out why.
For example, “Sing” by The Carpenters (definitely shows my age
), is supposed to be a fun, feel-good kind of song; however, I have to listen to it a couple of times because I cry the moment I hear the flute in the intro. There’s never any kind of visual or dissociation, just automatic tears. There are other songs that trigger me like that which are sad, but it’s an intensely sad response - it feels different from reactions to other songs. I recognize those particular songs are either from the 70s or early 80s before my life was altered in the middle of the night. So think, Jackson 5; Ronnie Milsap; Ten Years After; Kiss (Beth, specifically).
