Have Dietary Changes Or Supplements Helped Reduce Your Ptsd Symptoms?

I gave up all processed foods as well as almost all animal products (I still use honey in my tea and will occasionally have a slice or two of veggie pizza or a cup of coffee w/ cream and sugar when away from home).

It took over a year to detox from it all but the results are well worth it. I also take supplements: B vitamin complex, Fish Oil, Calcium-Magnesium, Vitamin D, and eat organic, whole foods as much as possible.

Various nuts, seeds, green tea, Apple Cider Vinegar and Cinnamon also help.

I don't know about PTSD symptoms per se, but my general depression has improved on an anti inflammatory diet. The most important thing is to cut out omega 6 fats like those found in most vegetable oils - this is really challenging because those oils are in practically everything pre-prepared, and restaurants usually cook with them. Also, try to up your omaga 3 intake - I take krill oil for that.

Does anyone else get headaches from fish oil? I'm wondering if a high quality oil would help but I don't have tons of money to throw away on trying different brands. I'm guessing there are impurities or toxins in the oil. Same reason why flax is a no no (in any form).

Excitotoxins are all bad. I just spoke to a friend about this two days ago. She had no idea that they existed. At the age I am I am seeing people I care about go down with Parkinson's, dementia, alzheimers etc. Many come to me because I have been a clean food nut for years. I juice, eat organics, am very careful not to microwave food etc.

In answer to your question, I am not certain if this is a help at all for my PTSD, and I try to avoid supplements because I don't truly know what is 'in them' as they are manufactured, however if an issue comes up (which it recently has for me (pancreatitis) then I get researching and compensate as best I can with whole foods.

Article to look into depression-allergic-reaction-inflammation-immune-system on the Guardian.

And another at the Guardian about Sertonin map of the brain and antidepressants. Good read.

Eating really well (and especially eating enough vs semi-starving) helps lessen my panic attacks...like usually I can ground myself or get through them vs I used to have many more negative symptoms and feel like I was dying. A little anxiety and I nearly fainted. Also, my energy level is pretty good, which is helpful. It doesn't save me from feeling depressed but having energy helps make most days tolerable.
