Having A Bad Day

Not that other days r good but some r less worse than others.

Right now googling YouTube suicide songs. And they keep coming back to hints of child molestation. Not making me feel better.

Been medicating myself profusely to try staying sane (moving out of one temp housing to another tomorrow) & perhaps get SOMETHING useful done but...

Guess I'm just reaching out for ideas to make me feel better. Or not feel at all. Cuttings never done it for me. Suppose I could go to sleep. But when I wake up it's the same story all over again.

So sorry you are hurting this much  @EveHarrington hs a great suggestion. There is even a DBT skill called "opposite action" and this is actually a common example given on how to regulate emotions and increase distress tolerance. You can google silly or happy songs, or funny cat videos. Or puppy videos. Even if you don't feel like it, it may help stop the spiral down more than songs about suicide will.

You may not be able to change circumstances, but over time, you can build up skills and resources that mean the circumstances don't cause you to feel so crappy and you can feel joy again.

I know it sucks! I mean I know how it feels to just want to do things one way and others suggest we do other things that we really don't want to do. It happens to me quite a bit but I know that sometimes it really does help to try something different, even when we don't want to.

Well, I just tried it. Have no patience. Don't find anything funny. Which just makes me sadder & madder cuz I usually love funny.

Gonna sleep... Hopefully with no nightmares.

Thanks for trying

Yeah, I know. When I'm down and stressed out, I never want to do it either. I tend to crave videos that are as dark as I feel. CBT studies show that tends to make people more depressed. But opposite action might help. Sometimes it take a bit for me to really shift out of it.

Moving is one of the top 10 most stressful life events for the general population. Things might feel better once you get settled into the new place for a bit, and at least don't have the "middle of moving" stressor.

I like to watch Good Mythical Morning on YouTube to giggle: https://www.youtube.com/user/rhettandlink2 I also really like the Clarity Project on you tube - it's inspiring for me. JennMarbles on youtube has made me laugh many times.

If the videos don't work, check out this page for other ideas: http://dbtselfhelp.com/html/distress_tolerance_handouts.html

If what you are looking for is a way to express what you are feeling, which is what happens for me when I crave sad songs... Perhaps art or painting might help express some of what you are feeling. Might be too hard to do while moving, but perhaps it can be a post move plan?

They may not make anything feel better, but they could stop the spiral down, and are a healthier alternative to self medicating and cutting. If none of this is helpful, just disregard.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Sometimes opposite action works by shifting the dial slightly. I have the same problem, I can't use comedy as an opposite. But I can use thrillers and action movies/TV shows. Anything that will stand a chance at distracting me.

When I can use comedy, it's always toward the cynical/satiric.

You're not alone, @Smile

No, I will not disregard! Thank you so much! All good ideas. actually had the urge to draw just don't have the head to so it now.

But now I have something to look forward to so thank you!
