New Here
I just discovered this forum while doing a web search on the question "can PSTD be cured?" Hearing answers from others who have been diagnosed with PSTD was comforting to me. No matter what the therapists have told me, I value your opinion more, at least with this question for sure! Also joining the forum is another attempt on my part to equip myself with the support needed to help me make it through the day when needed, and also to hopefully provide that same support to others!

Have others on the forum found it to be helpful for yourself or feel you're helping others?

Hi evolving

Welcome to the forum.

Being here on the forum has helped so many sufferer's and supporters learn so much more than therapist can ever teach you. They can give you the tools and knowledge of how to help heal yourself, as well as charging you for it. But the support of others who have been through it all before you, is free and you can never put a price on that.

As for your question about there being a "Cure For PTSD", unfortunately to date there is no cure, only recover and management of your symptoms. this does get easier in time. No one will tell you it is easy, no one can tell you how long it will take.

You will learn from those who have learnt from others, then others in the future will learn from you. It is a continuous support system.

Take care and keep going forward.

Hi evolving,

Glad you found the forum, its a great place to share our ups and downs of PTSD. Everyone is really supportive and there is always someone here to listen when the going gets tough or to share when you have reached a milestone or break through with dealing with the pain and trauma of PTSD.

I personally have found it useful just to be able to share with others who have some kind of understanding as to what it feels like trying to deal with the symptoms caused. We all have our own individual reasons that bring us here whether it be supporting someone with PTSD or being a sufferer etc. The one things we can all do though is relate to what it can feel like trying to battle when the going gets tough.

Hope you find the support you are looking for here.

Hi evolving, welcome to the forum.

Have others on the forum found it to be helpful for yourself or feel you're helping others?

I have found the forum help and support invaluable. I wouldn't be at the stage I am without the information, support and friendship from members. My T and I actually discussed the forum in our last session and he asked me if I thought I helped others. I share my story and experiences, I think sharing does help, both with the practical techniques we share but more importantly being part of a community, and the knowledge that we are no longer alone or isolated.

I am nearly at the end of my therapy. My T has told me I may relapse as there is no cure and has helped me put a plan in place to help if this happens. I will still be around the forum, I still value the support and friendship more than I can say.

I hope you will find the same
Take care

Welcome evolving!

"Ditto" to all of the above. Have a read through the articles. Understanding the condition helps but the support and understanding of those who truly 'know' is invaluable.

Yes you do indeed KP. x

Welcome to the forum evolving. Yes this forum was a real lifeline for me. I've learned so much here and it helped re-develop my social skills and bring me out of isolation. I even gave the link to my psychologist and psychiatrist so that they could pass it on to other trauma patients.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply with encouraging thoughts and sharing your personal experiences with the form! I get mixed feelings however with coming to terms with the reality of 'there's no cure' and the need to 'put a plan in place for relapse' but actually that's life, huh? Even if we're cured of PTSD there will always be every day stresses of life and again a plan to deal with those stresses are needed as well.

Welcome to the forum, Evolving!

I hope you find the forum as helpful and supportive as I have found it. The resources are quite extensive and I keep finding more and more. I look forward to getting to know you more.

Take care!
