a spouse

New Here
Hi, my husband is the one who suffers from PTSD. Although i suffer as well. I have a son who is almost 2 and I am trying to save my marriage. My husband was recently in a VA program that seemed like it was helping when i would talk to him on the phone, but he came back worse. They made him relive every traumatic thing that happend, which i know thats what needs to be done, but it seems like he thinks about it all the time because he has it in his mind now when he used to keep it in the back of his head. Im trying to find support. I have no one to talk to about this. i feel my friends or family would not understand and i wouldnt want them to look at him different. Ive just started researching PTSD, but what i would really like is people, that are going through the same thing, to talk to about it.

Hi there, unfortunatly a big part of therapy IS making themselves mindful of thier trauma and working through it and processing the emotions that come from those memories so they may be "laid to rest".Your average working serviceman does not have the time or opportunity to process trauma as it arises and it is then buried in a box of memories somewhere in the back of the mind where it then festers.

A major part of the healing process is to pop the lid of the box,air off the contents and keep examining it til it no longer causes him "grief".

Sue.

I've got PTSD, and I don't know what it might be like to support a spouse with it. But I just wanted to say welcome to the forum. It has been so helpful to me.

I feel exactly the same way. I'm just new here myself, and I have found it reassuring just to read other supporters stories and know that we're not alone in experiencing these feelings.

@ blackbird. yea i have been trying to find a support group, where i live, for spouses because i think we should have one, but i cant find one at all. its making me think to try start one
