Hello I'm new. I found out I had PTSD by accident. My usual doctor was away and a visiting one was reading about me on the computor and said to my mum "and I see she has PTSD too".

I am suprised it was in my medical records but I was never told. I have been on medication on and of since I was 18. the doctor first wanted me on medication at 16 but my mum said no and my depression was first picked up by a teacher when I was 11.

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. It must have been a shock to find out that way; but I hope you are able to seek treatment now that you know and you are over 18.

Hi Sky Heart - My mom did the same thing - weird, huh?

I think she meant well, but I wish she would have trusted doctors so I could have gotten help sooner.

I think social support is better than medication in some cases.
You will feel better after you share what are you suffering from with those who understand.

Hi and welcome. What a way to find out! It is good that you finally found out. I am hoping that things will start to get better for you symptom wise from now on. I'm sorry it took so long and you did'nt know about it.This is a good place to be. Lots of good help and support. Peace and healing to you from me.:)

thank you every one. My mum only found out in that doctors office also! I'm not suprised so much that I was never told as I am my mum was never told either (she would have told me). Even now when (doctors/psycologists/psyciatrists) have somthing important to say they get in contact with my mum and have her come in for a meeting. I tend to find out things through her.

I have a compleatly different question. Is PTSD related to trouble speaking and learning? I have trouble speaking if I am any where that is not home and also If some one new is at my home. I tend to try and pretend they are not really there. This has always been a problem.

Through out school teachers kept beliving I had mental retardation becacuse I would not comunicate with them or other children. I also had a lot of trouble learning and my reading leavel at high school was about that of an eight year old. I had aids and special clases.

I was slow at my mile stones also (first step 18months, first word 3 years, first sentence much older, and mum is not sure as it was hard to understand anything I said so she could not tell what was an actual sentince and what was jiberish) . But as an adult they tested my IQ and found it to be with in normal ranges but with some major vairiations. there were 95 percentile diference between my highest and lowest score. my mum was told I needed further testing. I did not get further testing. Mum decided that the mental health system was best for helping me.
