Hey all,

Perhaps I should have been more aware that there were forums such as these years ago and I could have gained the support that I had needed back then.I didn't, of course, and now I am signing in nearly 8 years after what happened to me.

I think I am looking for some exploration of long term PTSD symptoms, and how these can be overcome without the need of a therapist - and i guess whether it is possible to get over the entirety of these symptoms.

Im not really sure how to use this forum yet, so if this is really impersonal I apologise!

Hi Connie,

Welcome to the forum. This forum is full of kind, understanding and non-judgemental people. I hope you find it helpful.

Thanks! I hope I do too. Think it might take me a while to get used to being open about it all again. Its been so long since I've allowed myself the space to talk about it. And in many ways I am kind of scared of opening up the emotion of it!

Hi and welcome!

Glad you found us now, but actually we are a 'young' forum and have not been around that long.
Hope you find some support and comfort here!

Hi Connie

Welcome to the forum.

You are certainly not alone in not seeking help until years after a traumatic event. I am here, 18 years after being raped. Many members are here now as adults learning to cope with childhood sexual abuse. But the good news is, it's never too late to seek help and support, especially from a community of people who will understand all that you are going through.

Personally speaking, I don't think I would be as well as I am today, without the real-life help and support from my therapist, and other health care providers over the last year. So, you may want to consider some professional help.

Also I don't believe there is a way to entirely overcome PTSD. You can certainly learn how to manage your life, and symptoms, but as yet there is no research to suggest a definitive 'cure' for PTSD.

Hello Connie:

Hope you enjoy looking around while trying to figure out life. There are people who I think truly care and would love help you
I know first hand. And I for one wasn't used to having people careing about me. Just wait untill you decide to start a diary(that was hard for me) but glad I did it. So welcome to the forum and enjoy :)

Hi Connie,

Welcome to the Forum! Your intro was just fine. Don't stress yourself unnecessarily if you can avoid it. Having PTSD you already have enough stress in your system.

The best time to begin healing is now. It is never too late. We are all at different stages and ages.

Take care!
