I missed this one. Welcome Matt. Yes my brutally honest fellows have outlined in more or less graphic terms our friend called the beast. Ahh well. It could be worse. You could actually have herpes and all the fun that goes with it.

I think you'll be alright Matt. Plenty of jobs for folks like you outside. Helicopter pilots in the offshore oil fields are in great need. Pays extremely well. Just focus on sorting yourself out now and dealing with whatever the Military is going to throw your way. You know the military game and there are ways to thread that needle and come out clean on the other side. You just have to play their game better than them. They're not so smart.

Hang tough

Welcome, Matt. PTSD isn't addressed in the FAA regs, so flying with it isn't the problem. The problem is the meds they give you for it. I'm in the process of getting a Sport Pilots License. Many more restrictions than the Privat Lic. but if it gets me in the air, that's all I care. Was a Loadmaster in Nam and couldn't get flying out of my system.

Research the Flight Surgeons bulletins on what meds can give you problems with them. I've known pilots with a PTSD diagnosis, that fly commuter aircraft. I would advise you do your research soon as some regs. state "if you have ever taken this drug, it could negatively affect your license", so there are ways to dance around the restrictions.

Damn, flying choppers must be a blast.

Good Luck!

actually Wagon made me think.. (wow that musta took a lot of energy on his part lol) almost every civvie life flight pilot... ok no ALL of the ones I met.. were former military... who else can sit down on a street with power lines just a few feet from the rotors... come in on a high rise apt building and not land in the pool up there..

maybe you don't make it in the military... maybe you do... but between the oil rigs in the gulf.. (landing on a 20 x 20 deck in decent winds) to what I said about life flight... you have a LOT of options... they CRAVE people like you...

I used to be a computer consultant and flew twice a week on American.. I could always tell when we had an ex-Navy pilot at the wheel... coming in a little hot for my taste to the runway.. sudden way too on the edge flare... then straight down on the runway in the first 10 feet... 150 feet later we are taxiing with about 500 meters of runway left lol... the commercial industry loooooves ex military pilots.. they have something the others cant offer... balls...

Don't look at this as the end.. I hope for your career.. but there are tons of options left...
