Help Me See A Positive To Focus On

I've just had the copy letter from the Psch. assessment. It was folded in such a way that I saw the final page first. having read that I can't bring myslef to read any mor.

I'm having difficulty breathing and seeing straight and shivering on a hot day. I'm screwed

I'll copy below what is written, doing that will make me focus and give me the illusion I'm doing something constructive.

" There has been a considerable amount of psychological treatment already provided. it seems with limited or no positive result.

Mrs x tells me she hopes for two approaches
i) Help her overcome avoidance eg going out of the house
ii) Trauma processing though she explained in the past when this has been approached she has become sucidal and therapist "have retreated

Whilst I do not claim expertise in psychological therapy it would seem that having had at lest two periods of psychological therapy the likelihood of finding a particular psychological approach which would make a significant change is rather low.

Mr x tells me she had hoped for assessment and treatment at the Pottergate Centre but has come to understand NGS funding for this will not be available. I must leave it to others particularly those who might deliver treatments to decide whether further psychological treatment is necessary.

Historically an individual in MRS x situation with a moderate to severe psychological disorder, and at a moderately high risk of completed suicide would have reasonably expected continuing support from community services. such level of community support seems rarely available nowadays but nevertheless in my opinion she requires it

I do not know what future service provision may be offered Mrs x. She understands there will be structured assessment of personality ( NO actually told the SCID _ D for dissociation) by clinical psychologist and later some determination of what community treatment will be available.

At the time of writing she has not received a letter from the CE of Trust so the reference in my appointment letter to that statement has no meaning for her at the moment.

I hope that a constructive conclusion is found to the present difficulties."

I was supposed to get a letter by last Friday with the outcome of my complaint, so phoned yesterday, was told managers were still thinking, asked what support I had as I'd had no contact for a month and was told they would look into it.

This piece here either seems to contradict everything else, or the everything else is a statement of how you've thus far been failed, and that's the remedy.

? Isn't that him simply saying it would have been nice, but it isn't going to happen? That it used to be there, but now, even if it is required it won't happen?

Oh my goodness. I am so sorry Sandstone. All I can say is try to breath and take this one step at a time. I know someone who went through the ringer but has just come out the other end and is receiving the treatment he needs. Including expert knowledge in dissociation. They are being squeezed budget wise and often dont have enough knowledge. You can fight this.

It sounds like you haven't yet read the rest. I think you need to do that before you have a proper idea of what he is saying. To me he is bumbling around and saying that he knows he is bumbling around and doesn't know what the solution should be. But he is clearly saying there should be a solution.

What they never understand is that it is unrecognised dissociation that stops someone making progress and its that that will change the outcome. Infuriating. Try to hang in there. Dealing with the NHS is never going to be easy. I've read some of what you have been writing but not all. This is what happens with them sadly.

But the dissociation is what the previous psychologist wrote in her report, it is that that started the current phase of doing nothing, because she said I needed specialist therapy, but he is saying no therapy will help and now they have a professional view in writing that says that. They can fall back on it every time.

I can't read the rest of the letter while I'm alone. I knew at the time he wasn't hearing me, and I can't face seeing what he has said.

To me, this seems to essentially read as:
I know that you guys don't tend to follow through with providing community support, but I think this one really needs it...

I hate reading psych reports about myself. They always amplify the negative and it's incredible confronting to see it in black and white. What you've written, to me, sounds like an acknowledgment that your case is more complex than many other people relying on the system, and provides examples of why to justify that conclusion.

I know that's tough to read, but the conclusion is, it seems, "You guys need to help this one, because it's really tough for her".

Take your time, and be gentle with yourself.

I know I'm in an emotional state right now, and rather inclined to panic. I also know that is making me inclined to argue back against any attempt made to raise the positives I've asked for. But They will be useful in future, and might just make their way to a rational bit of my brain now, so please don't stop replying just because I don't accept what you say.

So far as community support goes, the person currently supposed to provide it has said he considers he has nothing to offer me. He is probably right. I have tried twice to discuss things I could see were likely to destabilise me. He wasn't much use, and despite me saying that regular contact would be a useful pressure valve, has made no contact except under direct pressure from the Complaints office.

I'm just hearing " Bloody woman has been given therapy and won't get better. Must be deliberate. don't waste any more on her"

It definitely doesn't rule out the role of future treatment on my reading, but it does (perhaps reasonably???) defer to those who are likely to be providing that future treatment to specify what that treatment will look like. Eg, "The p-doc who is going to provide the future treatment should be the one to decide what that treatment should look like..."

Isn't that him simply saying it would have been nice, but it isn't going to happen?
I took that to be more him saying "OK you idiots, can we please get this RIGHT?" Sounds to me,,even though he also says "Whilst I do not claim expertise in psychological therapy", like he thinking the system is broken, you need the help, and he's kind of frustrated.

I'm a bit perplexed that they have someone who claims no expertise in psychological therapy evaluating whether or not you should be given more. But then, there are a lot of things that come out of bureaucracies that perplex me. Based on that last page, it sounds to me like you probably have something written by a frustrated bureaucrat who wants you to get more help, isn't sure what help exists and isn't sure what the rest of the bureaucrats are going to do about it. (I hope the rest of the letter clarifies and goes your way!)
