Ok first off sorry if this is in the wrong place to post this but anyway I'm an OEF vet and when i came back I went to the VA for some help, ( i was told by friends and family and more so the ex that ive changed and that i was screwing things up) so i figured hell theyre probably right so i went to talk to someone and the Doc said PTSD and that was it I asked a few questions about how this would effect me but he kind of danced around it, i was a little skeptical but went with it. Well its almost a year later and ive just come ive realized my now ex told me all this bs because she felt guilty for what she did when i was deployed and that most of this comes from me missing my boys and wanting to get back in the military, i never should have gotten out in the first place. Dont get me wrong I do have anxiety and the Xanax helps but now im worried ive screwed myself out of the kind of job i want like law enforcement, fire fighter or getting back in... I have hopes of going SF if thats even possible now i dont collect any disability and i dont know whats on my record but i did get a perscription of xanax from the VA that was only filled a few times. , im sure some of you have dealt with this too so any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

SO combat related PTSD or not brother that's the big question for you to be in here as a member.
If you had a military doc say ptsd then its in your record and you can tank the idea of reenlisting.
I am unsure of the fire/police but if its in your medical records or part of your discharge then tank that idea as well.
Lets get back to the main subject. Do you have combat related PTSD or not? If not then you should be in the regular ptsd forum not here.

Well it wasnt until after i got out that i saw someone does that matter? and Idk man i've definately served in combat but thats the problem because no one has really explained the difference and i just got slapped with that diagnosis and sent on my way. So if I did this through the VA and not while i was in then kank getting back in altogether? I'd definately have no problem deploying again if that answers it??

If you have Combat related PTSD then you wont be allowed to reenlist as the military see's you as damaged goods. If you did it through the VA even. The VA is tied into your medical records so consider it all one big group.

Ah thanks man, one more question though is there anyway to be reevaluated or am I pretty much stuck with that diagnosis

Actually Fox, yes it is on your records, but people can be diagnosed and only have a mild case, hence a small dose of xanax for the anxiety, and if your not taking them now and feel stable, you might be over the worst.
PTSD is not curable, but you can manage.

If you go to a shrink and get a psychiatric eval done it could help. You see, a lot of cops and even serving members can show symptoms of PTSD after certain incidents, but they can manage it and end up back in the saddle.

All you can do is try.

Feel free to read all you want on the forum and see if it pertains to you. You served in combat, and they said you have PTSD, so for now you are a member of the forum.

Cheers buddy

Hey Fox

Yeah, as Red was saying, once you've been diagnosed with PTSD you've kind of been branded. The service won't take you back. I'd say put that behind you. Look into law enforcement since you're interested. They have a different standard than the military. If you're still having problems with PTSD, the VA does have some good programs and therapy that will help. Don't avoid it, if you get on to working on it now it will be better for ya' in the long run.

Also, Welcome to the forums. Glad you found us. If you could, let us know a little bit more about you. Where you served, who you were with, that sort of stuff. It's one of the things we like to see here.
