So, obviously I am new here. Served in Iraq from Aug 2006 to Aug 2007 as an military transition team member in Basrah. Went back in 2009 to Baghdad...not my smartest choice.

Been dealing with PTSD for about 5 years now, mostly on my own. Do have an appointment see a doc next week about this whole thing, so that is good. Guess it is safe to say I've been trying to 'ignore' PTSD for lack of a better word. I would say denial, but I know I have it, I am diagnosed, even talked to some "specialists" about it early on. But that was about it. It wasn't much of a help so I've been going it alone. Good days, bad days, ya know.

Anyway, I will check out the site. See what's out there. I've already seen much that I can relate to.

Welcome to the forum Caftt - .....good people here and good readings dealing with the ever disliked lable of ptsd. I see a counselor once a month at the local VetCenter. I would say that it does some good to talk things over every once and a while..........

I've spoken to a few specialists about this. In 2009 mostly. Problem is I just want to punch em. I know that sounds horrible, but being honest here. I look across the room at them and know they don't have a clue what I am talking about. One of the reasons I was glad to find this forum that is dedicated only to CPTSD veterans. Maybe I have had bad experiences early on (back in 07-09) that turned me off to the whole counselor thing, but the few I talked to just pissed me off ...seemed so patronizing.

I had a counseller like that. Always spewing the sympathy and acting shocked. They aren't all like that though. Find one you trust and move on. It does help.

Welcome CAFTT0607.

That was the biggest problem the guys had on my PTSD course I did. We questioned the facilitators. WTF would they know about combat. The answer was nothing.
But WTF do they know about PTSD, a shit load more than me. They had been doing courses for over 10 years and have heard countless stories from veterans on how they felt and what they experienced.

You have to give them a go mate. Until you find the right one you can handle talking to. It's one of the only ways forward.

You have a point. Well, like I said, I have an appt me a doc next week. We will see how it goes from there
