GREAT TIMING:
Hi everyone. It never ceases to surprise me how things come across your path at the right time. Just when I made the decision today to spend some time trying to find PTSD-reated pages/forums seeking to understand more of peoples' needs - I find myPTSD!!

A THUMBNAIL ABOUT US:
I have been supporting my husband who was diagnosed with PTSD several years ago after a breakdown and suicide attempt. It was only THEN that the military realised they had a 'man down' - only the battlefield wasn't a physical geographical war zone. I found the diagnosis itself as a relief because it gave me something to 'connect the dots' too. Our struggle has been gruelling without a doubt. Several times over we almost lost it all including each other - but we have stayed the course. I am keen to read the topics and comments that you all share and talk about.

THE YEAR AHEAD:
Where are we at today? He is drug free and has been medically cleared to return to work so 2017 is going to be especially interesting to see what evolves. I have also started writing a book - specifically for those who support others with PTSD. There is so much my husband and I have learned through 'trial by fire' and there is much I wish I knew during some of the darkest nights - so I want to help others, if I can contribute to 'lighten the load" in any way. I look forward to getting to know you and please, if you have ANY suggestions, comments, about what you felt you needed most in your journey I would love to hear from you.

Welcome to the community! With so many members and threads on this site, I'm sure you will find useful information.

Thank you Enaila! I have just been reading and reading the various posts and comments and threads and I am blown away. This place is soooo rich with support and practical help. I will be share this website on my FB pages and getting the message out there about this vehicle. Sometimes the biggest hurdle is knowing where to go and this site can accommodate that!

Welcome! I hope you find this place as useful as I do! :) You're right that one big hurtle is finding out where to go. This site is super great and has made me feel less alone in this. I'd love to hear more about the book you're writing. Keep us updated!

Welcome! You will find many supportive people here! They have all been a godsend to me.
Hi Mim28 - so great that you have experienced support in this forum. Sometimes that smallest sense of being heard, being understood can make all the difference in the world.

Hi Renee123 - thanks for the encouragement! With my book I am determined to make as 'practical' as possible for those who are in the shoes currently that I once was, in the support-role. It starts off with our story of how we met etc, transitions into life in the military, then the telling of the story of what happened when he had his breakdown. That was so much harder to write about than I anticipated. But moving forward from that section its all about dealing with fear as the spouse - the "what ifs...." that can consume. Learning how to communicate all over again. Setting and keeping boundaries with each other and interactions with the kids - doing that together, and following through with the previously-agreed consequences. Ouch. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary last year so I'm thinking we are getting a couple of things right for us.

Welcome aboard. Maybe you could share a few pointers you and your husband have learned through the years. Glad you're here!

I would be keen to read your story! I am studying psychology and aiming to specialize in PTSD, primarily military because being ex Army myself, I can put both things together to help our soldiers and veterans
