New Here
My name is Ulli. I have been misdiagnosed and have finally found a doctor who correctly diagnosed me with PTSD. I have run the gamut with medications, therapists, and psychiatrists, and even had two treatments of electro convulsive therapy.

I'm glad and relieved to have found this site.

Thank you.

Hi Ulli!

So glad you found the forum. There is so much support and information and exchanging of ideas and experience and healing solutions here. It has been tremendously helpful to me. I hope it will be for you too.

See you soon.

Welcome to the forum. Im sorry that it has taken the time and effort to get the proper diagnosis. Did the electro therapy help and if so, would you be willing to share the experience. Feel free to contact me privately, but I am so interested because nothing else has really helped me. Thanks, Brat

Hi, Brat. Thank you.

I would like to share my electroconvulsive therapy experience here because maybe it may help someone.

I was prescribed 12 treatments but only had 2. Although I had one of the best doctors in the country, I'm not sure I could do it again. The experience itself was painless. I was put under general anesthesia and a brain seizure was induced which lasted only a few seconds. The patient is then given a medication to stop the seizure. However, my doctor told me that my brain waves are so powerful that they stopped the seizure both treatments. I had very bad migraines afterwards but they would go away the next day. The scariest side effect I had was severe paranoia and out-of-body experience. I was an in-patient and developed paranoid thoughts that the ECT were being done to me to keep me in the hospital forever, and that it was a conspiracy. It was awful.

Also, I love to read and write. Now I find myself stumbling over the simplest words when spelling. And, finally, I have a small amount of long-term memory loss but more short-term memory loss.

Brat, please these side effects are different for everyone.

Also, I am more than happy to answer any questions I did not answer here.

Thank you for asking.

Welcome, Ulli, I hope you find the support you need here. There are lots of helpful, kind people on the forum and there is a lot of information available here, too.

Hi Ulli,

Welcome to MyPTSD forum! :)

Unfortunately, so many people with PTSD are misdiagnosed and treated for the wrong things. Getting a PTSD diagnosis can be a relief as it finally puts a name to what has been experienced. I hope you find the information and the support here helpful as you work on healing.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with electro convulsive therapy (ECT) and I hope that you overtime you regain your memory loss and the aphasia diminishes.

Debbie

Welcome, Bien Venu. Uli, there is really at lot of good information in the section Articles found at the top of your screen. And also we are many members. I can reassure you that though our traumas differ, the PTSD symptoms seem to be the same for most of us.

Have fun browsing throught the many Threads and subjects. I'm glad you are here.
