I was a 16 year FF/medic and National Search and Rescue member...have had PTSD since 1997 and it only worsened after working rescue/recovery for 5 months after the attacks on 9/11. Not much to say. Losing hope that I can beat this crap. Right now it is kicking my arse.

Welcome Paddy.

You'll beat it. You must be very brave person working as a medic and National Search and Rescue member. That takes a lot of caring and courage. And it requires a lot of courage to beat this I reckon.

There is a lot of wisdom and caring on this forum. It's helped me. I hope it helps you.

You kick it's arse right back.

Hi Paddy,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. There are days (or weeks) it feels like the PTSD is winning, but it can get better. There is a lot of fantastic information on this site, and the support of the other members is invaluable as you work on healing.

Take care.
Debbie

Thanks Debbie. I really need help. The problem is, I have been to 26 therapist and/or psychiatrists and none could help. Being an ex- first responder, I have seen and delt with my fair share of horrendous sites and should have been killed three times. I cannot seem to find anyone out there that can help. I am happy the VA is recognizing this and seemingly doing more for the Vets as I would not want any one of them to go through any of this. The Fire Dept sweeps it under the rug and being out of the service now due to 2 cancers and new hip (only 37y.o.) and that is due to working at Ground Zero, there seems to be nowhere to turn. I can talk to some friends but they do not understand. I can talk in AA, but I get the "just get over it" mentality back to me and alot of rolling of the eyes. I do not know where to turn, where to go and another thunderstorm is about to hit and that is a major trigger....feel lost.

Hi Paddy,

You have overcome so much, this will be more possible after the thunderstorm passes, hang in there.
Hope you can keep posting and reading here.

Welcome and peace to you.

"just get over it" mentality

Welcome Paddy,

I have CPTSD from childhood trauma and from more recent events(I'm an x nurse). PTSD is has its ups and downs. It will get better, please hang in there.
