I'm a bit concerned to see Members Diaries appearing on the homepage. It feels very exposed, even though I know it is just members. who can see it. Or is this just part of the transition, and hey will be taken off again?

@stenni, what is the difference from a logged in member seeing them on the homepage or going into the trauma members forum? Either way, they can see them as member only content. Guests do not see those on the homepage, only public content.

Very few read, and barely any comment on my diary, so I put in it things that I want to keep and work on, but am not seeking comment on. When it wasn't listed on the recent threads, there was nothing drawing attention to it. Someone had to want to know more about me to go and look at it. Now there is something drawing attention to it, and I will be very much more selective about what I write.

When it wasn't listed on the recent threads, there was nothing drawing attention to it.
When you add a new entry to it, it already shows in the recent activity stream anyway (unless you have set your privacy so your posts don't show there), so the visibility for your recent activity in your diary will pretty much remain the same and will still only be visible to members.

unless you have set your privacy so your posts don't show there
You can't set your privacy for posts, only media and profile content. But yes, every time Stenni posts, it shows in the new post area, which many members view regularly.

@stenni, Saying your diary was not highlighted when you post upon it, is inaccurate and untrue. It is highlighted, just like every other thread, when posted upon. It comes to the top of that forum, it shows in new posts, it shows to anyone who is subscribed to it (which you cannot see). Nothing has actually changed, as what is shown on the homepage to logged in members, is exactly what is already shown to all members as it is showing the new posts search feed, just showing it by thread name which is been posted on by time order... which news posts does.

You also do not know how many view that feed. I do... and it is a good majority of members that check new posts.

The only thing you can control is your news feed, i.e. stop people who follow you from seeing everything you post in their news feed. That is what the profile news feed does, it allows you to quickly see what those you follow have done, however; you can allow someone to follow you, i.e. PC and such you, but not see everything you do in one easy location via your news feed.

You cannot control your privacy for your posts and threads showing in the new posts, best posts, trending or watched threads area. Nor can you stop a member searching all your recent content from the search function.

Again... news feed is personal to your profile and group you follow... nothing more.

I don't mean my personal news feed. I mean the feed that members see when they click on the recent activity tab. There are members whose recent activity does not show up there. These are not members that I've got on ignore. Some of them are even members I follow and who follow me, so it's not to do with that. I know because I get notifications that they have commented or liked on something I've posted on, but the corresponding activity is not visible in the recent activity stream. I just assumed it was a privacy setting thing.

Yes, the recent activity stream is a profile feature. There is one setting on your privacy page which controls whether your activity goes into the news feed, as outlined above. That news feed applies to your profile settings, not whether your content shows in new posts and such.

Your content doesn't go into the news feed... as it goes into the search feeds. News feed is just a capture of all things members do in order to "follow" them.

The old homepage showed a list of new threads, not new posts. That was what people saw when they arrived at the forum. As a diary is not a new thread, it never showed up on the homepage. Now it does, and that makes a difference to me, so I'll change how I behave accordingly.
