How are you coping with Epstein news? (not a debate thread)

Ok fair enough, if you can tell whether it’s real/fake then the question is moot—but your point was that you can’t trust any of it. I like the way you broke it down. My question could be extrapolated to say, “How confident should I be about this [visual media being real/fake], given what I know [about source, corroboration, metadata, context, etc]?”

I think its getting harder to corroborate things. You get a youtube video on Epstein making bold claims, you find some sources, but those sources are also just opinion, not cited, so then you keep digging and all you find is opinions, then maybe you find a piece of paper that someone took that from, way out of context, maybe accurate, but at no stage was it easy to find.

Google makes it really hard to find things now, especially anything controversial. As a result of that, ChatGPT and Gemini both censor sources, as AI often makes for better search now than Google, but those two censor heavily. Try and translate something that may be old, hundreds of years, in another language, and sexual in nature. They won't do it. This is why I have said to people, regardless your thoughts on Elon Musk, the fact he has given us Grok without limitations and restrictions, is one of the last sources of freedom we have left, especially in a world of growing AI. Perplexity is also good, I haven't seen it censor yet, and Claude seems pretty open source without restrictions. Well, they're all restricted to some things, ie. none will help you create child porn or such things, that is illegal, but finding information is not illegal, and ChatGPT and Gemini DO NOT want you to find some information now, especially on Epstein.

Point though, one of the best ways I found to corroborate sources in video content, is to use Grok and give it basic information and let it find facts. Either it will, or it won't.

My spouse (Tat), who will be start a doctorate program in technology this fall and currently works in a university that is currently working on AI issues, recently helped with a presentation of visual images. The question was, could you tell if they were real or AI. Some it was easy to tell, but so many I just couldn't tell. It's a scary thing.

I think a more logical stance is to treat visual media as evidence whose credibility depends on things like source, corroboration, metadata, and context

Yes. And that can be hard, but is definitely worth it, in my opnion

i tend to look at the motivations as a factor to discern truth. If it is from a news source that only wants to sell me a subscription thats one thing. If it is just an online post laced with click bait or a political agenda i am more skeptical.
when the reverand turns away from the newcomers and seekers in the back pews and starts preaching to the choir, i am on the sidewalk before the plate gets to me.

I hear you. I am appreciating my current pastor and church who exist for the marginalized. My pastor came into the church disguised as a homeless person to see how people would treat him. Another time he engaged with a homeless person who spoke out in the service eventually calling him to the front to give him a hug. The church has been coming alongside him to help him get to a better place. He was displaced when his mother died. I have never seen a church care so much about the marginalized, treating like the real people that we are. Of course there are bad actors who come in, just like Anthonybut those who are truly wanting and needing help get it. With no judgment. Have never seen that before. Thousands of people have started coming to church. Went from 2 campuses to 6 campuses in 2 years. When you treat people the way Jesus treated people, people get healed and delivered from strongholds and want to help the next person. Sorry for all of the fakes out there. I’ve left quite a few in my dust as well.
