How are you gonna celebrate New Years Eve?

Christmas Gumbo (since I didn’t get to make it on XMas), Black eyed peas for luck (always), and killing lots and lots zombies. :D:tup::sneaky:

I miss fancy dress & fireworks, skinny dipping at the hot springs & bonfires until dawn, snowboarding & snowangels snowforts snowballs & hot chocolate; bagpipes, brass bands, orchestras, musicians jamming... but southern food & videogames beats frozen patrols and mosquito thick swamps any day of the year. So it may not be what I want most, but I’ll enjoy it down to my fingertips.

PJs & Zombies. Done deal.

LOL....Aaaaaaand a little BB King

Unless we luck out and my mom breaks out her bagpipes. In which case, hell yeah. But she won’t play very often. So my money is on BB.

I...am going to have a cheese and biscuit party with my husband. Blue cheese. Yum. Hopefully not too much cheese.
We have planned to watch either Dr Strangelove or that movie with Anne Hathaway and the monster thingy.
I react badly to fireworks so I am shacking up inside in a mini survival mode.
Since I gave up alcohol many many years ago New Years lost that "you have to enjoy yourself" vibe, so there is actual possibility that I can despite the bangs outside.

For years now, my New Year's has just been helping our dogs cope with the fireworks. I live in a country where it's legal for everyone to buy and set off fireworks, so New Year's Eve is about 4 hours of super-intense fireworks plus 20 hours of very frequent background fireworks.
Also, the week before New Year's and the two weeks after are teenagers setting off fireworks every 15 minutes or so, because they hoard them. That's technically illegal (only allowed to set them off on New Year's Eve) but hey, teenagers, right?
Our dogs are absolutely frazzled by it, so looking after that is what it's all about.
I'm grateful I live out in the country now, because it's a hundred times less bad than it was in the city.

So yeah, with that ^^ weird background  I always use New Year's as a reflect on the old year and relfect on the new year kinda spiritual thing... Checking in with my soul... Asking my soul if we're on the right path, or if there's any adjustments we should make.

Also, the country where I live has a tradition of "lead pouring" on New Year's. Given that lead is not a very healthy substance, that's a bit of a weird tradition, but hey. The tradition is you melt a chunk of led on a spoon and then tip the molten metal into a cup of water and the metal kind of "freezes" and solidifies in a weird shape. Then you and your friends guess what that shape is and what kind of "omen" that is for the new year. You need to get a bit creative... For example if it's the shape of a horse... Doesn't necessarily mean you'll be getting a horse... It could mean you're going on an interesting trip/ holiday (think horse ride) or something.

So, years ago, a friend came up with the idea of buying a Kinder Suprise Chocolate Egg (the ones with the little toys inside) and using the toy as an omen, instead of melting lead.
So usually I do that too... get a Kinder Suprise Chocolate Egg, get the toy and have fun riddling what on earth the toy could mean as an omen for 2019. It's fun, cos you search your subconscious for clues and if you look long enough and creatively enough, your subconscious usually comes up with something that's "oooooh, cool!"

I live in the town that is having the infamous "Possum Drop" this year, so I guess I have to go see that. However, I don't own a vehicle, don't drive and I don't want to take my new bike there, because I don't know how to attach the rear reflector/ light I bought for it. The celebrations are taking place only a few blocks from here, including fireworks at midnight, so I guess I really should go there, because I love fireworks. We are even having funnel cakes, our mayor says. YUM! So, God willing, somehow I will get there.

The same way I celebrate every day...by trying to gently nurture my being (and the ones I love) by bringing as little harm to other living things as possible in the processes, by giving thanks for the things we so often take for granted...like breath, clean water, shelter, sustenance, all five senses, nature, and being able to feel all the feelings in this thing called life...although sometimes I really wish I could shut that part off.

I gave up trying to honor the "special" calendar days of the years and focus on one of the favorite sayings of a former co-worker...."Every day is a holiday and every meal is a banquet." He's a veteran and I think he mentioned that he learned the saying while in service, but I don't recall which branch he served in.

Trying to do things by the expected societal "norms" and scripts only brings me grief, no matter how happy, merry, excited, and joyful everyone feels I "should" be. I finally learned to stop shoulding on myself and appreciate it when others do the same. Cheers to the folks who can still hang with those expectations and manage to find much joy in the chaotic shuffles and such. Joy is hard to come by these days...cherish every second of it that comes along in whatever fashion it arrives in. May 2019 be much more kind.

Probably watch movies and eat munchies.

One day I want to go to Bethlehem for the peep drop. :hilarious:

Our town has a funny “drop” of its own but I won’t mention it here because I’d give away my location.

I’m hella thankful that Americans celebrate with drops and not as much with fireworks.

My family and I go bowling around noon, and then we all gather at night to watch the ball drop and go see the fireworks across the river. I have a friend coming this year which is nice ? and I'll get dressed up even though no one but my friend and I will lol I want to wear something sparkly. We're going to play games and make some drinks. I also made a little photo booth set up and got props and horns and my niece is excited about that. I'm going to make sure I don't binge drink!! I didn't last year but the two years before that I did and kissed people I shouldn't have hahaha but neither were bad nights.
