How long does it take for an antidepressant increase to take effect?

Thank You! I am not currently seeing a psychiatrist but just my OB for the antidepressant...she stated that 25 may work for me but, if not she can increase to 50. I was prescribed it due to PTSD induced depression. I wasn't that honest at my initial apt, its because I had only seen her once before and I didn't really feel comfortable. So she just thought I was feeling kind of "blah..." as she put it she had no idea that the reason I went on it was to make sure I didn't start self harming or do something even worse...I think I may wait for my apt. in a week and a half and talk to her about all of that and see what she thinks. It is also hard to tell if its working or not because, of the being disassociated for days on time side of things....During these periods I don't feel depressed and feel fine so, being that its not an every day thing it is so hard to know exactly where I'm at...

Thank You for all the wonderful advice/replies. I am still currently at 50 mg for Zoloft however, last week I started feeling a lot better. I think this dosage is working well for me, I no longer feel depressed/SI yup feel scarily a lot better. I have an apt. on Tues with OB but, I think I'm going to cancel-I think the 50 mg is working out well for me now!

There have been some useful and informed comments in this thread. I will add my 2 cents worth.

My partner went on 25 mg of Endep and he had an effect that night. I can go up to 150mg (of course I didn't, my point is theoretical - but I can go up one tablet no effect, another tablet, no effect, third tablet - some effect) and have no effect on me - hardly at all. It really depends on your body time and how your metabolisim works, and how much your body can tolerate. You can give me enough to fell an ungulate, and I have no effects. My partner needs to go up a quarter of a tablet - because the effect is immediate. It is a bit if... everyone is different. If you are on a low dose and you are still struggling it is worth speaking to your prescribing doctor. My partner got some effect, and then that plateaued out and I suggested he ring the doc, and up the meds went and he is much better now. Early days for him as of yet. Good luck.

My psychiatrist is nuanced with her medication skills - it helps to have someone good @WishfulThinking123.
