I've had a few profound experiences that I cannot explain other than that there is a God of some sort. I can no longer go to mass because I get too triggered thinking about the pervasive sexual abuse priests commit. But I do pray often. @Enaila expressed a lot of my faith attitudes well.

Bad stuff happens because we have free will. I really think it's as simple and complicated as that. I think we're here on this earth to learn to be grown-up, compassionate people. It's our choice to pursue that or not. Obviously, some do not.

I used to only pray at night, just to "keep in touch" with God. Ever since I started working on the kill floor of a meat shop (I no longer work there thank God) I never prayed so hard in my life on shift. Because of the tremendous guilt of working at that job and praying my hands don't slip with that damned stunner. I've never had a problem humanely killing an animal, but my mind goes crazy knowing causing an animal pain. I still have morbid vivid dreams and audible and touch hallucinations from the many mishaps.

Ever since that job, whenever I got something bothering me, I stop what I'm doing for a moment of prayer. Even if it's a moment of closing my eyes and asking for mental peace in that moment.

Not a member of any organized religion-my faith is personal. I pray every day. If for no other reason than to remember to be grateful and to thank whatever you may choose to believe in to have the things I do.

Even were I an atheist, taking the time every day to remind oneself of all the things we have and to send out a general sense of gratitude for existence is a worthwhile endeavor.
