Hey gdf,
I am still getting used to this new chat myself.
From what I can see, everything you need appears on the bottom bar of the screen and I have not worked it all out yet either.
On the far right bottom is a cog symbol. This is CometChat Options. This is where you can change your status and you have three options. Available, Busy, and Invisible. You can also disable sound, add friends, and change your status message.
The next from the right is the Who's Online area. There is a little symbol of a person with a coloured dot. This is your status. Green Online, Red Busy, and Opaque Invisible. Followed by this is the words 'Who's Online' and a number in brackets. This will tell you how many of your friends are online. It lists your friends alphabetically; however, when someone goes online it automatically places them on the top of the list. All this is good, but if people don't want to chat the can just click 'Go Offline' or 'Invisible', or 'Busy'. The other point to note is that if you open multiple web pages, you most likely will not see if someone is trying to chat to you.
The last symbol on the far left is an arrow pointing right inside a box. I am inquisitive about this too. If you click on this it says 'Create Chatroom'. I mucked around and created two chatrooms, but being the loner that I am, no one joined me.
So, I think a good idea would be to PM a few people, organise a time, and give it a whirl.
I forgot to add, that if the chatroom is inactive for 10 minutes, it is deleted. This is great because even the simplest of people like myself will understand that no chatrooms means no people chatting.
