I Was Offered The Job, And I'll Be Declining Tomorrow!

I knew you could do it, well done on sitting through a very gruelling interview process.
I couldn't have done it without my Tigger and my Iron Soldier. Thanks to KP and Alba for spiritual support!

Make sure if you ever go into an interview and there is more than you and the hiring manager there then RUN!

That's not always 100% true. I know a large, international, very-well-known, extremely reputable corporation that has a call center in my city. When someone applies for a job the first step in the process is to attend a group information session where they tell you about the company and the position. An applicant must attend this group session to move on in the hiring/application process. This company and their jobs are not scams. I know people who work for this company.

You may have heard of them...it's a little corporation called Hilton. *sarcasm*

So while MissAntiSunshine's experience was a scam of sorts, one cannot automatically assume that if applicants are brought in as a group it is always a scam.

Antimiss....

I really think you have shown great strength in so many ways. I suggest you place this experience in the memory bank (ikes some times tough for one with PTSD) as you can use it as a tool as a reminder in that you are a very intelligent woman capable of making rational decisions at times of great duress . The world is full of unknowns and we need to learn from our experiences (both positive and negative). You are very lucky....no I say strong in that you were able to recognize something was ary(?- cant find absolute correct spelling ary as in a rye piece of bread oh no i mean like i got something of sand in my eye crapp, no well u know what I mean oh.... here it is awry I was close... ) before comitting to the what seems to be intentional misleadings of another. Yahooooooo (I still prefer "Google" & wiki) for you!

AHHHHHHHHH!!!

These guys DON'T F**KING QUIT.

He just called me back to challenge what I'd read and tell me I was wrong. I was more rude this time, because he was just trying to run me over again with fast talk! I'm still shaking a little, but I let him know very clearly that I was NOT interested and WOULDN'T BE interested no matter what he said or promised.

I've already uncovered four court cases in different states in which this company (look it up online! Vector. Also look up Students Against Vector Exploitation) was accused (and held on the charges of) fraud and violating workers' rights, and its ads have been banned from several newspapers for acts of fraud and the victimization of young students. There are also a TON of reports/confessions from secretaries who were told to lie to students (about job availability/competition among other things).

I didn't tell him all the nastiest things I would have liked to say, but I refrained and the conversation was pretty much...

"I could see the pyramid scheme as you were interviewing."
"This isn't a pyramid scheme. It's..."
"Yes it is."
"No it's not. I-"
*me laughing* "Yes it is."
"Okay, I can take you off the training schedule."
"Yes. Please do."
*click*

When I get my PhD, I will be wiping the mud off of my boots with scumbags like these! (and I was thinking that in the interview, too!)

Be glad you're dealing with them instead of the Church of Scientology. I did a weekend seminar in Boston proper with them once with a friend in 1980... because we were intellectually curious to see what the draw was to belief systems that obviously had no basis in reality... and though they kicked us both out... I got letters from them telling me how much they loved me for 10 years. They could find me faster than anyone else could. It freaked me out.

Good on you... you did due diligence, and stuck to your ethics and common sense.

Doh. I forgot to say my line to him: Sure, this is a real job, just like Scientology is a real religion.

Took lots of effort to be minimally rude and not say all of the nastiest things I'd have liked to. Maybe I should have taken the opportunity to do so. Nope, I think I'm okay with not letting him know directly that I think he is a corporate scumbag leech who thrives off of the broken dreams of students looking for tuition money.

But in case you guys were wondering... I think he's a corporate scumbag leech who thrives off of the broken dreams of students looking for tuition money. Kiss my a*s Mr. Todd.

:tup:MAS... I consider being kicked out of the head mucky mucks brownstone in Boston proper one of the high points of my ability to reason... Soooo.... aggrivating though it may be... pause to consider your clear and present ability to know bullsh*t when you see it... and you're ability to act accordingly. Good on you for not accepting a job, just because they were willing to "hire" you. You're sounding sound and strong today... and I love it.

My mother and I stepped off a sidewalk about two weeks after a worldwide protest launched by the hacker group Anonymous against the CoS. She looked and said, "Oh, a free stress test." My heart nearly froze as the scientologists looked at her. I KNOW that they will hunt you down if a) they think you'll buy into it and b) if you're hurting their image. I grabbed her hand and pulled her away and told her it had NOTHING to do with her heart rate.

The reason I am so deeply perturbed by this experience is that they remind me of scientologists. The only reason I'm hesitant to post up the info about Vector is that I'm scared they'll harass me further, as from what I've read it sounds like they have a lot of the same spying practices as Scientology! Sending people to petition sites and other informational sites to say what great success they've had, they're 18 years old, earned 50K in a year or 10K in months or whatever. How scary!

Hee hee... I was 20... so was my friend Tim. We took the seminar... three weekends. They split us up immediately... he was a midwesterner... and a rather confused intellectual with spiritual leanings. We were reading the Seth books. He convinced me to pursue as an intellectual exercise the workshop. I did it. We both ended up at the head nuts desk. When we both agreed and said that the introductory seminar was so beneficial we'd like to repeat it rather than spend money we didn't have and just vent to a stranger. The culmination of the "graduation" weekend, was that we both got sent up to the 3rd floor... and the head nut was using intimidation tactics. I leaned in quietly and asked what "level" he was... 7 past clear. I asked him how much it cost. With some calculations he told me and asked why. I stood up, pounded on his desk and postured an aggressive posture and said something like, "because I can stand up and intimidate you right now and it didn't cost me over twelve thousand bucks". I was waiting on the curb after they got nowhere with my friend Tim. Yet they continued to try to draw us in with "love and acceptance". I had grown up in so cal... moonies, and a whole host of others... I didn't get why people would be hooked on cult things. I got it then... love and acceptance... and your hard earned money. Tim said they haunted him for two decades... I guess I was the lucky one. What saved both our asses is that we were both GI's ... we didn't bother to disclose that.
