I Was So Scared. I Forgot Everything.

It has happened a few times. I get this amnesia thing where I struggle to remember where I am and who I am. I do not think these last long; however, they scare me so much that I am on edge hoping that I will not have another attack like that.

I have seizures where I go unconscious and this happens. This seems tame to that; but I feel being awake, looking around and struggling to remember what is around me slightly more disturbing. This is not exactly a seizure. I am fully alert looking around.

I just had to share my anxiety with someone. I do not really know what is going on.

FaerieJayne, it sounds like dissociatation. It is nothing to fear. It is a form of protection. You can't handle something that is going on, so you mind sort of "berps" you. It's like a temporary - momentary blackout. Then, when you feel safe you wake up and it takes a few to remember who and where you are. I've been doing that for years.

I'm glad you are catching it early. If you have a therapist who is competent, tell them about it. If you don't, only tell one who has experience with trauma.

Hi Faerie,

It sounds nasty. I wonder if it is an extreme form of Jamais vu which is really dissociation. Like not recognising ones environment at all (I get that quite often) but you also forget yourself. I also have this thing where my mind just empties completely.

P.S. Like Safenow says it won't hurt you although you may find it distressing. Unfortunately the more afraid we are the higher the anxiety goes and that makes the incident last longer and be deeper.

((((Faerie)))

You may want to check this out with your family doctor since you said you have seizures. Just for peace of mind. It is probably nothing but I would get it checked out just in case I am wishing you the best.

I think that I will talk to my doctor about this. Thank you very much. I don't think the anxiety is going to go away. It is the most horrid feeling forgetting everything and struggling to remember. It gives me a headache too which doesn't help things. I think that it is comforting in a way that you all relate and have experienced something like this.
