Idiosyncratic triggers

@Friday Totally get that. Coffee, sweat and cigs alone, won’t bat an eyelid

That aftershave, remind myself we’ve got this and I can deal with it.

All 4 together, holy crap like someone better start running because shits gonna hit the fan

I do wonder if we’re all talking about the same aftershave?! lol. Yeah, that too. I come across it from time to time in work as it’s very popular. Mortuary becomes a no-go zone for me. Decomp? Gag-inducing but fine. Post mortem embalming? Gross but yeah whatever. That aftershave? Nope! Do not ask me to go in there because you’ll find yourself outta luck.

That would actually be quite funny if we were all referencing the same one. It’s irritatingly popular, I’m always like no come on fellas let’s branch out a bit here and get more adventurous.

This morning I was driving to work and saw someone riding a ten-speed bike which triggers hypervigilance in me and I was wondering what other people’s personal triggers might be, especially ones that others might be surprised by unless they knew your story.

Previous triggers which I have overcome were:
Routine
Making a sandwich
Taking a nap
Bluegrass music
Sound is a big trigger for me,

Babies crying
* Air horns
* Bagpipes
* Certain types of alarms.
* Emergency services sirens
+ other random sounds on TV that I have now have basically stopped watching TV as it's not worth it.

All still trigger me to have a panic attack, and none of which has anything to do with my traumas.

None sound triggers,
Triggers like and including
- any type of perceived threat towards me or anyone I'm near physically. As in you could yell at someone else I don't know you or them but the fact I'm there would trigger me.
- Same as above any type of aggression/confrontation towards me or anyone I'm near physically.
- Any type of perceived threat towards my wife or future son
- people in general, it was so weird I swear at one point I could physically feel other peoples emotions like this horrible extra sense. They could literally just be near me and think/feel something strongly, and that would set me off. I pretty much just avoided people to survive/recover.

At my worst, any type of surprise, good or bad. Or if I needed to flinch for any reason.
Anything that would engage my terribly sensitive startle reflex.Would give me a massive panic attack,

the smell of Loma Linda veja-links or any other of their processed soya bean meat imposters. I don't even know if they still make them, but if you have cooked a bunch of them in your house for a long time I will know it when I am at the front door if not sooner. I am not even going to do a search to see if they are still on the market, an image might put that smell in my brain and I am good without it, ever again.

True, that.

I still spend DAYS pissed off at my neighbors before Inrealize there is no way they are BBQ’ing sewage. Olfactory triggers/flashbacks? Overlay faaaar too easily onto real life.

the stink of a big cold carbureted engine still on the choke circuit and adrenalin and sweaty turn outs is in my brain forever. All i have to do is catch one of them and i am halfway back to those loud and silent rides into who knows what? Of course I would do it again, but like dirt bikes and fist fights, i survived it to know better and thats the way it goes. Fun until it wasn’t oh well.
