New Here
I am a nurse in the High Arctic. I am currently off on "sick leave" due to signs and symptoms of PTSD and/or ASR. It is a very long process, but I am taking all the advice of doctors, social worker etc.
I have had great support from family, friends and co workers. I just have one question...
Why do agencies such as Workers Compensation...Insurance Companies...and Employment Insurance not believe that it exists? Why should we have to go through the added stress and anxiety on our lives to try and prove that we need help, just for someone sitting behind a desk can tell me that "it's part of my job description."
Any thoughts on this? Any other nurses in Canada having the same issue?

Thanks.

I'm in the U.S. I've been dealing with it for over 3 years , I'm tired of the battle! It takes a lot of energy that I already don't have a lot of to fight for help.

Hi and welcome , I'm really sorry you feel this way , I'm from London and fortunately for me I didn't have the issues of not been believed about my diagnosis . I was triggering every day last year and flash backing , because I'm a service manager at the organisation my chief exec was very concerned and paid privately from the company for me to have the best treatment and therapy x I was very very fortunate . I have strategies in place so if I'm triggering or disassociate or flashbacking then I deal with it how I see best , sometimes I go home to sleep it off other times I stay at work at work because I'm scared to be alone at home but my deputy works in my office with me and I don't make any major descisions within my role until I'm feeling better. I wish everyone could have this level of support but rules are different in every work placements and different countries . Cptsd or Ptsd is a mental health diagnosis so it shouldn't be an issue , as for making someone believe you i would say they are very lucky they are not experiencing what you are x good luck , I'm rooting for you x

@tree123 Welcome to the forum! :)

I am sorry you are experiencing so much stress with not only your symptoms, but also the insurance process. One thing that I learned in my own experience is that decisions made by claims adjusters are not personal. They affect people at a personal level, but the decisions are governed by statute, contract, and common law. Have them explain very specifically why they do not believe the claim is compensable and EXACTLY what they are basing that on. That should help as you work on getting benefits.

I hope you also find the information and support here beneficial to your healing.
