Yes Anthony I hear what your saying about child support too, I spent many years without receiving even small amounts and recently I have had to go through the review/appeals process and was once again on the losing end of things, but in the grand scheme of things, a few dollars a week is not worth the aggravation especially when there are other more important battles to be fought.
I would love to be able to find a legal rep, unfortunatly we can not afford it, so many things have gone wrong for us since he was discarded and things are pretty tight, though I do seem to make some headway when he is in hospital with finances.
As for the whole White card/ Gold Card thing, it is a nightmare, my husband has a white card for a broken leg and apart from that he was in pretty good physical health (*Exception being mystery blood disorder, long story and not relevant atm), 5 years later he is a mess, sleep Apnoea, lipid/cholesterol issues, weight problems and who knows what else.
I just wish they would stop making things worse for those with Mental Illness as the treatment they recieve from DVA is causing so much damage and impacting on not just the vet. but the family as well. I think it should be mandatory for all DVA staff to read the Dunt Review on Suicide in the Ex Service community. I have found that dealing with a RCG caseworker who have read this is a little less stressful and they seem to be empathetic to the frusturation involved with the claim process. Unfortunately they are just as helpless as we are when it comes to decisions though, they can only liaise for us.
I have however made it clear to our caseworker/s, that if all else seems to have failed that I will go to ACA or similar program.
