Some irrational childhood fears and beliefs can sneak in my day sometimes; I suspect I’m not the only one. ;)

* Small aquatic reptiles in the toilet ready to bite my tush when I sit.

* Sleep with the lights on, so I’ll see a shadow over my eye lids & wake up sooner.

* I still eat green M&M’s thinking they are lucky.

* I hold my breath when driving by a cemetary. (just for fun of course)

* I never go into the bathroom before turning on the light – a human reflection in the dark might call demon spirits. :devilish:

What are some things you still fear or believe, contrary to rational sense?

Lol...
Bridges and piers with the tiniest gaps in the boarding so you can see the water below freak me right ou.

Earwigs and slugs after encounters that were far from pleasant with them.

Anyone called "michelle".

Brush nylon/velcro, touching either or hearing velcro knocks me sick...just do not like the way they feel and being a child of the 70's we had brush nylon sleepwear and sheets that used to build up lots of static. As an adult I've realised I attract a lot of static and it realy makes me feel ill. Not got a clue on the phisilogicl affects but for me it makes me hyper...

Crikey that all sounds quite odd...and people keep telling me I don't need therapy as I'm one of the strongest well adjusted people they ever met...yeah..whatever.

Oh and now due to recent events we can add woodsaws and breadboards..

Occasionaly I notice I'm not stepping on the crack that separates the sidewalk blocks. The ones they put in every 4-8 feet for stress relief when they make the sidewalk. As a kid there was a saying "step on a crack and break your momma's back", and we would all try to avoid stepping on the cracks. I have no idea why this has still stuck with me. I'm not superstious and wasn't as a child either. This is about as close to a superstion I have that I'm aware of.

I wasn't sure what an earwig was till I looked it up and found it.

Not sure why the name Michelle is scary ... or is that movie related that I'm unaware of?

I must have missed your recent adventures with woodsaws and breadboards. (are breadboards the same as cutting boards?) I assume a woodsaw is a saw that cuts wood, lol, but I'm not seeing what is scary about them -- or is it because of the Chainsaw Massacre movie? (I'm glad I never saw that, lol no pun intended).

Lol..the earwigs bit comes from hanging out washing on a line under a big tree and a gust of wind showered me in the horrible things. At the time I had long curly hair and the damn things took hours to remove....nasty.

Michelle was the primary school bully who made my life hell aged nine ..

This is a funny thread....

1) when I was really little (maybe 3-4 yrs old) I saw this large tractor-trailer get into a wreck on the highway and it flipped over. we drove past it and I remember thinking to myself, "never get in a truck or anything bigger than a car or it will flip over". I was terrified of flipping over in a truck or van, so if I ever had to get in one I would feel sick at my stomach and be afraid the entire time. When we would turn corners I was sure we were going to flip over - we never did, but I always leaned the opposite way so my body weight would compensate for the turn (yea right, 40 lbs of kid). The fear slowly subsided over the years, but it still pops into the back of my mind when we turn corners in my BF's truck....(I think I might be nuts....)

2) same thing with horses or animals you ride - always had a fear they would fall over as a kid. haven't ridden in years, but I bet I would still have that in the back of my mind too.

Teachers still scare me.

I'm still scared that someone is going to come out of my closet and steal me away from my parents in the middle of the night.

I'm scared that no one likes me, and that everybody secretly hates me and are talking about me behind my back. (In Chat this affects me, I feel like people leave because I've offended them- It is SO hard to let go of this stuff too, it's affecting my friendships because I think that they're being fake- but they're NOT.) :(

I will not sleep with a closet open.
I'm still "a bit" scared of the dark.
The phone ringing when I'm home alone at night. This probably comes from so many horror films...
