Is Anyone Else Looking Forward To The Meteor Shower This Weekend?

The Perseids are back in action for the next few days. I look forward to them every single year. This year we're actually going on a mini vacation up one of the local mountains for them. It should be a spectacular view as we'll be above the city lights.

The reason I like this particular shower is that it's pretty consistent. In ideal conditions you can see about 50 shooting stars an hour but even in the city you'll see some. It's like that every year or better. It's always so nice to get out into the quiet away from all the human static. It's always felt like watching the sky at this time somehow connected me to the history of the planet. Even the time long before people. How everything will always keep going regardless of the petty and even the major crap going on in the world, in my life.

Any other night sky buffs out there?

I checked on Google, for Perseids Meteor Shower and it gives a lot of areas it may be seen from! Has anyone ever watched on Google Earth?

It's pretty much world wide. The earth passes close to the meteor belt that is between us and Mars in early mid August. So we all can watch. That's what part of what makes me feel so connected.

People all over can see the beauty of it.

Oh super! Of all things we have the first solid cloud cover, 2 drops of rain; lightning and thunder.

Ugh, the cloud cover holds the heat in. Central WA here. We will be having a striking night that is for sure. Hoping to see some tomorrow. Thanks for starting this thread I had forgotten about the meteors!

We got some spectacular thunderstorms last night which kind of made up for the gondola to the mountain summit being canceled. We rented a cabin for the weekend. It's our vacation for the year. I'm hoping for some clearing out of the sky for tonight or tomorrow night. Grrr. I hope your skies clear up too. Western WA here.
