Is Anyone Else Triggered By This?

I am triggered by tv shows, movies, etc that have human-like robots. Like this whole craze of AI stuff triggers the shit out of me. I get very angry or I shut down.

human-like robots

The commerical about a toliet freaks me out. Has human like robots in the beginning.

But I don't get triggered by tv as I can change the channel. I call that a stressor.

Robots intrest me. The mechanics of it. But if it gets too human. Like the show Extant sort of freaks me out. But not triggered really.

Any chance your trauma involved masks? Or something that blunted your ability to see facial features, details, movement, etc.? Drugs, darkness, etc.? Because it would make total sense that the limited range of motion & blunted affect of people playing robots, or CG characters aping people, might hit that button.

If not...

Did you know that film studios can actually make waaaaaaay more realistic Virtual / CG characters than they do? What they found, though, is that at a certain point people hate them. A very visceral, and almost universal response. There are a lot of theories as to why, my favorite is that they're just wrong. There's something missing, but are otherwise so perfectly done, that they just create this skyrocketing anxiety in nearly anyone who sees them. Wrong-Wrong-Wrong-Wrong. It completely breaks the 4th wall. People cannot suspend their disbelief, because their distaste & revulsion is so high. Even worse than B-Movie terrible acting.

So they dumb down their CG to make them less perfect, or create fantastical elements (blue fur, silver skin, whatever) that interjects a fantasy element that allows the 4th wall to remain unbroken. It's "just" a cartoon/ story/ actor/ etc. It's not real. The thing is, though, there's a spectrum. What they aim for, with realistic CG is to get the majority of people to loooooove the character. To be impressed by the realism, instead of disgusted & stressed out by it. So they tweak the realism back and forth and awful lot. No matter what, though, some people will be repelled by the fakeness of them & some people will be repelled by the realism.

So maybe that might be what's going on? That you're on one of the narrower ends of the spectrum where the realism is setting off all your alarm bells, rocketing your anxiety, & stressing you out?

Have you identified specifically what it is about them you fear?
Kind of? It's hard to describe. I've been sitting here staring at the screen for a cpl of minutes trying to think of how to articulate it and I just have no words for it, just "feelings"- not the emotional kind, the physical kind.

Thanks for asking this question. I think it'd be helpful for me to figure this out.

I don't watch television, it's just if I see a photo online, like an ad for a tv show or movie, or something. And only female robots. Mannequins also freak me out.

My fiance is also very interested in the mechanics, the future of AI, etc. He likes this show called "Human" or "Humans", I can't remember which it is. It bothers me- I've never even watched it. If he even mentions it I get upset. I feel so stupid that it bothers me so I try to pretend it doesn't but I feel my face change and my demeanor changes :/

Thanks for responding. It helps to talk about it.

No, I didn't know all that :)

Answers to your questions:
1. Masks? Not that I recall, however one of the more traumatizing events happened at a Halloween party :/ there were really no kids there, just adults, that I can recall. In my memories, I don't see distinguishing facial features, it's like they're smudged out. Does that make sense?
2. Drugs? Yes.
3. Darkness? Yes.

Thank you for taking the time to write all you did, I appreciate it :)

I have a little bit of freak outs at realistic robots, where it is hard to tell the difference and I think it is maybe about being a humam robot, basically? Doing what was told even though what I was told to do was very horrible (like killing animals)? And so, in a way, I felt robotic. I actually used to pretend to be a robot when little and so I don't know if this is why I would do that.

My trauma included most things so yes, there were times with masks and certianly always drugs and darkness. But, I am wondering if it has more to do with feeling robotic in my trauma based on being told to do things and I literally had to say "yes master" and do them or a worse thing would happen.

Does that make any sense?

Thanks for your post.
Triggers are everywhere I get triggered very easily at times by from all forms of media. one that really stands out is MAY DAY RELAY MAY DAY RELAY I start to panic right away it turns me into mush. If i am in the car I have to pull off of the road now and stop I have no time to do anything else. I was an off shore fisherman and went though some very scary situations a sea ei: fires, sinking, no less than 5 hurricane force storms. there are a lot of tigers out there identifying them has been difficult for me.
thanks again for your post
Peace be safe
