Hi there everyone. Once again after SUCH a long time I have made it back to the forums, and things have begun to change (some for better, most for worse), but I need some information quite urgently regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Is it a certified mental illness? And if so - why does my country not recognize it as such? Why am I constantly denied help from agencies which I know would help me because I "don't fit the criteria". As far as I knew, the DSM IV lists Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a mental illness, this should clear up any bloody mess for these pathetic health 'professionals'. What part of "Suicidal", "Depressed", and "Nightmares" do they not understand?

Please someone let me know,
thanks in advance.

What country are you in? Here in the US it is a 'mental illness.' I'm pretty sure.........I got disability because of it and major depressive disorder and dissociative disorder.

Tlight, Hi. I'm in New Zealanad - I have all of what you have along with PTSD, and I don't receive anything in the form of support for it, to be honest. I'm trying to reintegrate into society by way of support groups etc, but they won't hear a WORD of it because they refuse to admit that Post Traumatic Stress is a mental illness. Even though I have been fully diagnosed with that, plus anxiety and depression etc and tried to commit suicide on several occasions recently.

oH MY... I'm so sorry mortiis. I've been in your shoes for a decade or so. I had three serious suicide attempts before Social Security finally admitted that what all my medical records said might not just be me lying........

Please, hang in there, find someone you can trust........take care of you. Don't worry, everything will turn out OK....I'll be praying for you.

Yes, PTSD is a recognised mental illness in New Zealand. Sounds to me like the people you are trying to be recognised by are likely more ignorant than anything else. Australia and New Zealand work from the DSM IV-TR.
