For girls in EU 13.5% and for boys 5.6%.

That has been or hasnt been? I know England at least has stats very simular to the US and in the US its way higher:

"Sexual assault has fallen by 49% in recent years.3"

https://rainn.org/get-information/statistics/frequency-of-sexual-assault

Here's others by the same site (more statistics in the link):

"About Victims

  • 44% of victims are under age 18
  • 80% are under age 30
Sexual Assault Numbers

  • Every 107 seconds, another sexual assault occurs
  • There is an average of 293,000 instances (victims age 12 or older) of sexual assault each year"
https://rainn.org/statistics

Most stats agree that its about 1 in every 3 girls and 1 in every 7 boys, about. Those are US stats but UK is close if not more. Unsure about remainder of Europe but I doubt, especially with human trafficking on the rise and being a "booming industry" (sadly) I doubt it will lower that much. I hope it does, I really truely hope it does! Its very disgusting and truely sad.

I am kind or out of the norm of most who survived sexual abuse. I have had many conversations with other women over the years and I have to say, at the very least 3 out of 5 women I shared with said me too. That doesn't count for those to ashamed to say it or have blocked it out. I think the statistics are lower for men because they fear what it might say "about them" as men if their abuser was male or their own mother. Some were abused by baby sitters and never let it sink in that they were sexually abused.

I don't think it's anything new by a long shot. Old Lot in the bible attests to that. I think perceptions have changed about who has the "right' to do what. Also the advances in media has opened the topic.
The term "rule of thumb" originated when a man choosing a rod to beat his wife or children with would measure it by the width of his thumb. If it was no wider it was okay to use.
Times have changed. The world is no worse than it was before, it's just more people are speaking out and saying this is wrong.
That is a good thing.

Wow, that about rule of thumb is new to me...

I'm hearing that lately Pakistan is discussing allowing men to lightly beat their wives... :(

There are so many things that have happened and still happen that sicken me. The only thing we can do is heal and help others heal. I am speaking for myself of course. I am not politically savvy or educated enough to create real change but I can speak up when I see a wrong and I can lend an understanding ear.

I just wanted to say that statistics on sexual abuse are almost pointless. Why? Because it is so incredibly hard to keep track of something that most people don't ever report if it happens to them. Also, the definition of sexual abuse varies greatly between cultures and probably even between neighbours. For example, I'm pretty sure there are still plenty of ignorant people in my neighbourhood that think rape within marriage isn't really rape. And no one is going to report something they believe isn't a crime.

I guess my point is that it's not all that unlikely that you know so many people who have been sexually abused in some way. I know that at least one of my friends has been raped, although she hasn't really talked about it with me. And probably many more of them as well. It saddens and angers me too, that this is such a common thing. And that it's not the perpetrators, but the victims that end up being punished and feeling ashamed.
