Man those Warthogs could bring the pain, I am sure there was a reason they ditched them, but for a fire suppression mission or anti-armor you couldn't ask for anything that could come in lower and lay down the rounds like that... a Vulcan M61 20mm letting loose 6000 rpm is kinda sexxxi if you ask me...

I was just talking to dad, he was a Marine during the Korea and Vietnam eras... He said riding an AMTRAC in to the beach made him all shaky... there was only about 2 feet of the craft above the waterline, it was constantly taking on water... rolled like a drunk sailor coming back from liberty... he said when it hit the beach it was like getting punched in the jaw depending on the angle of the sand..

Man it is amazing how fast the face of land air sea envelopment is changing... Osprey, LCAC, CH-53E with a hummer and a platoon of Marines flown in behind the lines etc... or several flying in an artillery battery to get em where it hurts.... ya I miss being deployed sometimes.... adrenaline can be a good thing...

Unarmored LCAC's? You mean you can take them out with a hunting rifle? The Navy has their head firmly up their ass. They should have taken the USS Cole as a warning. One guy in a rubber raft takes out the most powerful ship class on the seas. WWII Destroyers have more armor than todays ships. The Navy counts exclusively on not taking a hit.

Unfortunately the Russians and Chinese have developed two things that make any surface ship pretty obsolete at the moment. The SS-N-11 Sunburn also the Chinese have the DF 21D and then the new Russian rocket torpedo (75 kts).

It will take the loss of an Aircraft and a couple LHD's for the Navy to wake up. Unfortunately that's over 10,000 dead sailors.

The sad state of affairs in US military acquisitions is well known. To see real evidence of this, presented by a DoD insider, please read the following book: The Pentagon Wars: Reformers Challenge the Old Guard by Colonel James G. Burton, Annapolis, Maryland: Naval Institute Press (1993). This book should make every American angry....

Thanks. I'll look that up. It is sad. Most of my executive career was spent helping company's perform military transportation contracts. I met myself in the back door. In University I did some research on the gulf war and the failings of the Military Transportation Command and MSC.But the solution to that ended up being a complete failure.

Want to know where billions of US Tax Dollars go to transport the US military around the world at abt 10 times the market rate??? Four Families in Scandinavia. Mærsk, Wilhelmsen, Wallenius and Høegh. The nicest c*nts you'll ever meet. Just don't do business with them. Blue blooded bastards every one.

Makes you wonder who is running the whole show.

Tim those two terms are like oil and water.. DC/fiscal responsibility... shake the bottle as much as you want they will still separate in a few minutes...
