Jumbling up words when trying to recall a traumatic memory

I can loose my vocabulary completely. It happens during emdr and/or when trying to process a memory. Sometimes I just have to sit there and wait for the words to come back. I can stutter and stammer around. Early on I would dissociate, but now I am acutely aware I can't formulate a sentence. It totally sucks... I am able to come out of it more quickly, but it is still mind boggling how I can go from a functioning adult to a non verbal adult in 3 seconds.

Front brain goes off line. Reptilian survival brain kicks in. Academic, smart professional to mute in nanoseconds. Envelope things? Pillow slips apparently.

Definitely... One reason I like to write and edit, before speaking out loud. When I get anxious my shortterm memory (which isn't great to begin with) goes out the frigging window. I sit here on my own thinking things like, "This life is absurd. I have a degree!" lol like that matters.
