That's terrible that you feel like a piece of meat. Hope we can help you change that. Hang in there.

Hi MissU-
Welcome to the group. I will echo the thoughts of others: you are not a piece of meat or an object. You are a human being. I can identify with what you say though. One aspect of trauma that results from the event, is a collection of thoughts, or 'cognitive assumptions' that are created either externally (by an abuser, for example) or internally (our own thoughts and interpretations of what has happened). These remain and trouble us every bit as much as graphic intrusions such as flashbacks. Plus, inevitably, they will surface after a flashback, and so they roll around our minds negatively reinforcing the trauma.

Hence: cognitive therapy is crucial in PTSD treatment in addressing these cognitive assumptions and replacing them with appropriate 'correct' thoughts and beliefs.

I must say, I'm a little concerned that, as an avatar, you have chosen a piece of meat. This is NOT who you are, so perhaps it would be empowering if you changed it when you feel ready and able to do so?

Hope this helps,

Bin.

Miss Understood,

I like your "name" I am glad you have decided to face the abuse you unfortunately suffured. That is great. Hopefully you are getting use to the forum and finding your way around. I am glad you found your way here and hope you find this site as much of a help on your way to healing as I have. WELCOME!:)
