Let The Games Begin - London 2012 Olympics

I think this has been a very friendly and sporting games so far. There was one weight lifter done for doping and the accusations against the young Chinese girl but other than that it has been an amazing games with athletes being very supportive of each other - even those from other countries.

I cried when our Judo lad got taken out very quickly with an Ippon and he stood their sobbing that he had let everyone down! Our swimmers cried, everyone seems to be crying!

The BBC did a profile of Luol Deng the Chicago Bulls basketball player. I was very moved by his story, he is such a humble man. He was raised in war-torn Somalia, living in poverty and danger. His parents moved to London and they lived a poor life there. His dream was to be a professional footballer as he played for a local team but he took up basketball, which wasn't big in the UK at the time. His coach was very strict and he was soon spotted by the NBA and now plays for the Bulls. He is now playing for the UK in this Olympics and he is such a shy and unassuming man that wishes he could dispensary into a crowd (not possible when you are that tall)! What an inspiration to young people!

I also think that 2 badminton pairs were disqualified, when they both tried to loose their match in order to get an easier draw in the next round. :tdown: But it was easily spotted and dealt with.

I forgot about that Cherry but you are so right.:tup: That was terrible and I was afraid the judges would chicken out and not DQ them - I'm so glad they did - what a farce! Those people had paid a lot of money to watch them play and they were a disgrace!

Apart from THAT - it's been a good games so far! lets hope we get no more of this kind of nonsense.:rolleyes:

I was so excited that Kayla Harrison won gold in judo! She was sexually abused by a coach for years but stayed with the sport. Tremendous. And I adored seeing Kieran Behan of Ireland in gymnastics last week--he also stuck with the sport despite big injuries and obstacles.

Thank goodness I was able to watch the rowing and Jessica Ennis on the computer this morning whilst at work :D:eek:. Oh and yes, I did get quite a lot of work done as well :tup:.

Now for the cycling later and swimming after that go Team GB.

Go Team South Africa. As my girls are South African, I want SA to do well, the BBC has adopted Bert Le Clos, father of the swimmer - he is so sweet, keeps telling the world about his 'beautiful boy. I cannot imagine the pride parents must feel.

Too true Amethist. It was amazing. Poor H has had a tear in his eye at the medal ceremony. Hopefully more tomorrow.
