My Dr. just put me on 10mg of Lexapro. I have done some research and it looks like many people gain weight on this drug. Anything else I should know about this drug while on it? I am not happy about the weight gain thing, but going to keep a close eye on it, and try to not let that get out of hand.

I had muscle tension, suicidal ideation, all sorts of crap... but each respond differently to each drug and combination of drugs.

Gastro intestinal problems is a side effect also. Weight gain is usually a given with AD's. Most of them do cause weight gain, although some people don't. We are all different...

Ah, Lexapro...I took it some years back. It made me worse. I hadn't felt suicidal in a long time before I started taking it; the symptoms started after having taken it for about 2 months.

My doctor eased me off of it and I tried something else...I'm on Cymbalta now w/ Wellbutrin to kick its effects up a notch. It works a lot better for me.

I think they generally direct patients to take Lexapro in the morning. There are some people, however, who find Lexapro to be extremely sedating. Some people it has no effect on in that regard. Others can barely keep their eyes open. I had this problem and have known two other people who had the same problem. I also know other people who take Lexapro in the AM with no sedating effect whatsoever. When I took Lexapro and found myself too tired to function, my doctor had me switch to taking it at night and said that it has that effect on some people but there is no way to know until they try it. Even taking it at night, I still found it to be too sedating and had to discontinue.

I have only been on it 3 weeks. It just started to take effect. I initially got real nauseus from it. Now I do notice the belly aches, afternoon naps, and it makes me very talkative. I actually have been eating less than normal.

I was on Lexapro for a few years and I found it very helpful. I didn't have any noticeable side effects, but like others have mentioned, it can be different for everyone.

My daughter and mom have both been on lexapro - no weight gain at all for either of them. For both of them - it worked very well for their depression symptoms.

HOWEVER, with all SSRI's PLEASE don't stop taking it suddenly and without your doctor's advice. This is how my daughter ended up in the hospital several years back - she thought she was ok - so therefore, didn't need her medicine anymore. She went downhill quickly. You should always (when medically safe) taper back down under your doctor's care.

Good for you Oka... it is good that people try things for themselves to determine whether something actually helps you or not. What works for one, may not work for another. That statement is very true and correct in every aspect. Try, try, try I say.

My pdoc just put me on Lexapro today....he knows about my concern with weight gaining meds, and he said this one is supposed to be more neutral in terms of weight gain. Anything has gotta be better than those darn antipsychotics!!!
