Hey @Anrish - you must have read my mind because as I was running around the park this am I was thinking about your boot coming through the screen - in a totally good and gentle way : )

Finally this weekend the temps dropped leaving nothing but glorious sunshine and blue skies and wide open spaces int hick to run.

I have had two long runs ( 18 and then 24 miles) in the last two weeks just to get my head on right to the distance since I hadn't been doing a lot of longer runs in the humidity of the summer. They felt really good, legs felt fresh and limber. I have a foam roller so after the long runs I have been rolling around on the foam and it's helped keep everything more elastic.

I had two lake swims this weekend too which were blissful.

I am cycling and I reduced hockey until after the marathon as I found that hockey messed with my knees and caused soreness - mostly because I don't stop properly on skates - that's gong to be real goal of mine after the marathon.

I have dropped a bit of weight which wasn't my goal so I am focussed on more weight training and also increasing my protein/fat intake. Since doing more weight work I believe I can feel a stronger core. Plus runners are notorious for pushing out their stomachs when they run so I have been more conscious of maintaining good 'core' form while running longer distances.

Making my way to yoga...have done it a few times and it's a goal over the winter to do more.

Yesterday or so I fought a tree :p

Basically, due to a truck that was meant to come through this morning, I had to remove a tree, and that tree was infested with ants, that set up a hive inside it :p So I fought a tree, chopping it with an axe and at the same time being bitten by ants

@City Slicker : Glad to hear your training conditions got better. ...and wow, I seem to be a mental pain in the a**. :p

I'll cross my fingers for your marathon, you'll do great. Do have a specific goal you want to reach?

How did you lose weight? I would love to...:alien::cool:....because my body weight ain't the best one for a runner.

Enjoy your yoga. I'll try to do it more often also...I avoided it a bit after I had some sceneries in my inner room... ...but I feel that I need it because my stress at work increases.

We'll both do a great job, I'm positive!

Hey Anrish - lol, totally not a pain in the a**!! I am loving it. lol.

I so don't have a runner's physique or the mental discipline either - I have no idea what my times are until I start training for a race and then I follow the general weekly plan (loosely) to get ready.

This year I am planing for a 3:40. That's a time that will also qualify me for other upcoming marathons.

I dropped weight by reducing simple carbs. My goal was to keep my carbs to 50 a day and under and even at that, only as healthy carbs as I could find.

I eliminated breads and sugars and some real sugary fruits and the weight began to drop. I do believe in the chain reaction that occurs when sugars and carbs start messing with insulin and blood glucose and cortisol levels. I replaced the carbs with protein and fats (and of course complex carbs like nuts and seeds).

The hard thing in reducing simple carbs is they are in almost everything so it takes a bit of planning to get into the zone that best works for your body. Trial and error works best to see how your body responds and to give it time to 'speak' to you.

Yes we are definitely going to do a great job @Anrish

Hope the stress at work reduces for you too.

@City Slicker : Thank you for your suggestions. :)

Wow, your goal is...:wideeyed::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy: ...I never made it under 4:40. ...but I did a half marathon in 02:07 once, that was okay. :p

I only eat one or two slices of bread each day - and it's self made bread with good flour and lots of grains. ...but I try to recude other stuff. I tried it once to eat no carbs at all - and I started hallucinating after three days...:alien:

Is stress at work reduced when one has even to stay over night in her office? :ninja::cool: ...only ten work days until my vacation, so it's okay.

Hope you and Hank are doing fine!:hug::hug:

Hey @Anrish Hank and I are doing really well. He's been a great training partner for me because I can tell when he gets tired and then I know it's time to buy him a hot dog from the cart and if it's good weather we sit under the big oak tree and he eats his hot dog. Then I put him back in the car to watch the comings and goings and to give him some down time on his own.

So I am all rested now for the marathon on Sunday. No more runs until my slow run after the marathon. Now I am concentrating on stretching and some weight work and planks for core work. I did some basic yoga and didn't push too much because I really don't seem to bend where I should. I am very envious of your ability to do yoga - I kind of work away at it but I am terribly uncoordinated most of the time with the moves lol.

Been having some epsom sat baths and some nice showers breathing in the steam and visualizing the route in my head. I am looking forward to it.

Onward and upward my fellow road warriors. Let's do this thing!!

@City Slicker : I wish you good luck for your marathon on Sunday! You will do great!

Glad to hear your training with Hank works so well - you're a great team!

I didn't do my run last Saturday. It was raining really hard over here - especially during the time when the race was scheduled. I didn't want to risk to become sick, so I rather didn't participate. :(

And Yoga Nidra is without moves! :p You just lie flat on your back and mentally go through your body, it's more about how to focus your mind. I never did the other Yoga stuff - also because I'm too scared of taking a course...

I'll cheer for you on Sunday!!! :)

Thank you @Anrish - I will be hearing your cheers all along the route!

Ok definitely going to go back to the Yoga Nidra - I tried it once and then got distracted lol. I think I will try it tonight.

It's good to take good care to prevent getting sick plus we have this awful cold going around here and I have been almost phobic about not catching it!

Going to do a bit of stretching tonight and some Yoga Nidra as well.

@City Slicker : Imagine a smily with pompons right here!!! :D

You'll do great! And I hope you won't catch a cold before Sunday! ...I have lots of colleagues at work who also have the cold and I just send them out of my office.

Enjoy your yoga! :)

31 min on my OCR-way through the woods in combination with the keep-fit-trail. Did all exercises and was quicker! New record! :whistling::woot::wideeyed:

The Marathon was wonderful. I was up fairly early and it was pouring rain but it was already warm and I could feel it would be a good run if the temperature didn't start dropping.

By the time the bell went off it had stopped raining but was overcast and warm. It drizzled on and off the rest of the morning but it was a nice misty spray that kept the runners cool.

The fellow I was running with has never run a marathon before and as we were 'corralling' into starting position, his bowels started chattering at him. This is very normal even for experienced marathon runners and he was struggling for the first few minutes of the race. Actually this wasn't so bad because there are something like 20,000 runners all lined up and it takes a few minutes once the bell goes for you to even get to the starting line. By the time we crossed the line he was feeling better. We took it easy for the first 5-7k but we had an agreement that if he wanted to run faster, he should go and same with me and we would meet up later at Starbucks.

We spent about 15kms or so together and then it was time for me to head off. He was enjoying talking to other runners and motioned he would see me at the finish line. It looked like I could still make my qualifying time of 3:40 so I figured out how fast I was going to have to be in order to do that.

The rest of the race was a nice blur of weather, thoughts, pudgy fingers, water stations, smiling faces, meditations, conversations with Hank, thinking about running him through the park and his face when he eats his hot dog. I's hard to get too lost in your head on these marathons because everything is alive and electric and people are everywhere and there are so many distractions along the way.

One pain in my hip, one small blister on my toe and it was over.

I waited at the finish line for my buddy and didn't see him. By this point I was starting to stiffen up and I decided to go for a massage and then come back and find him. The massage was heavenly - there were tables and tents and massage chairs set up everywhere.

I wandered over to Starbucks and found my buddy happily zoned out on the post-event and the runner's high he was experiencing.

My time: 3:38:44! I couldn't be happier about that.

I took a vacation day from work to relax and take Hank for a nice long walk.
