Long, But Worth the Read - What a Day!

HI, Herc - I am so sorry it was such a hell of a day. That you survived it is a testament to your courage. =)

On a side note, I have to admit to being tired of the insults to America as well. We hear bad stories and policies about Australia, Canada, and every other country but I for one am not slamming other countries since I know every place has pros and cons including the United States - give it a rest already.

That's quite a story Herc. I'm glad you succeeded in getting the scripts.

I'm basically a proud Yank but the system we have doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I've been employed full time, homeless, and uninsured (all at the same time). Now I work for a government agency and enjoy better health care benefits than most of the taxpaying citizens that pay my salary. I'm not sure that's right. Why is it that my insurance reimburses the same pharmacy for the same drug at a price that is much less than what a homeless uninsured person would be expected to pay?

Those of us outside of the USA are inundated with American culture through the media and also American arrogance. We are criticized when we do not wish to take part in the same wars as the US (such as Iraq, Canada stayed out it). Many of the United States' foreign policies directly impact our lives adversely. It does get rather tiring at times. The USA is not the only country in the world, yet oftimes the American government seems to think or act thusly. I believe that is partly the reason why many outside of the USA feel so resentful. It not the people of the United States so much as your government many are opposed to.

Herc, fabulous story, and well written too I might add. I am so sorry for your misadventures, however I had to chuckle .....you poor thing. I however do relate and know how angry you probably were. Again, thanks for sharing I needed that....

OMG what an awful time Herc! Actually I recall something similar happening to me when I was living on my own and was on disability. Anything to do with government agencies, assistance, insurance and so on is pretty bad, regardless of what country you are in. Though here in Canada, prescription drugs are free to those who qualify.

I agree with what Mum (Kathy) said about American foreign policy, many people outside of the USA really don't agree with it and you guys would be surprised at the amount of resentment, some of the policies really do effect us badly here in Canada and in other parts of the world too no doubt. It's hard not to feel strongly about that. But I understand what you're saying too Lisa, it must hurt your feelings and make you guys angry to hear your country being put down so often. I see both sides of it really... and maybe political discussions don't belong on this forum, I don't know... at least, I imagine people would feel really sensitive about it.

Anyhow sorry Herc for hijacking your thread, just felt I wanted to say something about that.

Evie - glad to see you around! Hope you are feeling better. =) i would have to second the motion that political discussions don't belong here...thanks.

Thanks Grace, I'm happy to be back though still not feeling great. Hmm though maybe I shouldn't have said political discussions don't belong on this forum! I re-read what I wrote and I was thinking, did I write that?? Maybe I'm a bit stoned on painkillers! :p It's not for me to decide and then I also remembered that having political discussions is a kind of exposure therapy for many, and it works. I have shied away from political discussions and other controversies on here before but maybe it's a kind of avoidance on my part and I shouldn't be avoiding? I don't know.

What a story Grama-H... Thanks for sharing, it made me laugh. I am glad to see you find the humor in it, even though the experience itself was far from funny. I loved the differentiation of rock vs. dumb rock. There might be something to that.

Welcome back Evie!

I think a lot of Americans don't have a good grasp of how our government's actions are viewed around the world. I listen to news from other countries on short wave radio sometimes to hear a different perspective. Enlightening to say the least! I don't know if politics belong here or not. I guess that's up to Anthony to decide. I don't mind having the discussion because I don't take it personally.

Ok troops! I'm not sure how I lost control of my thread, but seems I have.

This was meant to make you laugh. Lighten you day. Show how insane our world can get sometimes and maybe even a chance for me to brag just a little.

Under the circumstances I am rather proud of myself that I did not jump the counter, find the nearest human and LOOSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how did my light hearted, humorous, and somewhat FUNNY thread become a place for political statement and opinions.

I'm not mad, just a little confused That's all. Cuz now someone who could really enjoy this story might miss it cuz they only see political stuff(want to call it crap, but I won't) Start you own damn thread for that!

I'm Still Smiling See

:hello: Grama-Herc :naughty:

I so agree with you Grama-Herc! I feel that this was an example of an american idiot, not our government. I'm sure every country has idiots in them. The thread got way off track and that just isn't right. I truly enjoyed this thread 'til it got political. I hope this gets it back on track.

Anyway, I'm still smilin' with ya.:hello:

Have a good day! Morgan
