Long Term Fatigue Anyone?

cause IBS symptoms

Really? I have IBS. I figured my bleeding (slightly) ulcer was stess/PTSD/mental caused but didnt think of IBS.

I'm very strong-willed, but for the last 12 years I haven't been able to will myself out of the fatigue.

Im the strongest willed person I know, I got myself clean off all drugs ive been addicted to without any rehab, just good old strong will. I dont think you can "will yourself out" of fatique caused by PTSD/mental reasons.

Maybe you can and the minute i say "you can't" someone comes along and says "i did" but dont be so hard on yourself. It seems to be very very common.

I sort of bulldoze my way through but it could take me under, and take my job, very very easy.

There is a medication available called Provogil. I'm not sure why it's prescribed, I was working the over night shift at the time. It helped.

Provigil: Stimulant
It can treat narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder.

Narcolepsy i still swear I have (though if i do im unsure of the come and go staying for weeks and gone for weeks) but i enter REM sleep within secs of sleeping and thats what narcolepsy is basically. A sleep study is the only thing I didnt do.

But its a stimulant, as is addrall, doesnt suprise me it worked.

If you have anxiety too, id stay away from stimulants though. If you dont then its an option. Addrall worked too, just kept me in 'red zone' like anxiety all day.

@mary1979 - that's a big strategy they push to help with major depressive episodes. You feel like you've got nothing in the tank, but you've gotta get yourself out of bed and start moving again. We know that with MDE it becomes a downward spiral: cant move so I don't so mood goes lower, then mood goes lower and moving just gets harder, so you have to break the cycle, even when your brain says you can't. Really common for ptsd'ers to go through MDE's every now and again, so there could be overlap for some of us there.

@lostforgottensoul - my dad recently got diagnosed with sleep apnoea. And it was so bad that he had to report it to his employer, because there comes a certain point when your sleep apnoea is so bad that you will spontaneously just fall asleep. I had a friend used to do that - you think you're having a two-way conversation and suddenly he's just fallen asleep in his chair (also from sleep apnoea). Full on.

CHEM lady I had fatigue in orgo class from the dehydrohalogenation of vicinal dihalides but I recovered by physical chemistry by the time we used ' the bomb' and did the HCl/DCl experiment but it recurred during the required error analysis for computing the dissociation energy of I2

;)

My experience with PTSD and fatigue is that extreme stress led my body to shut down, and I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Lymphadenopathy Syndrome or ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis). 18 years later, I still suffer CFS although my PTSD is well under control and I have done the hard part of healing from the truama memories.

It is my express hope that none of you suffer with CFS as it is a big pain in the arse!!!

My suggestions to you are to rest as much as you can, pace yourself with activities, ask for help when you need it, and as always keep your physician informed of your fatigue symptoms.

I'm suffering from severe exhaustion now. My life is resting so I can do small things like a little around the house, go to therapy, go grocery shopping. Every day I have something however small, the next day I have to be home for a rest day. I'm so tired of it. Pun not intended. Lol.

Sometimes I'm the energizer bunny.

Sometimes I'm like wait what....!!?? I think I just lost a month! LOL

I always thought the energy bit was related to all those out of whack chemicals running around our bodies. I have a health condition which also affects those chemicals and my doc explained to me that essentially running these chemicals on high will tank my system.
