Hello everyone :)

My name is Sophie and I am a broadcast journalism student at Nottingham Trent University in England.
I am in my final year and for my dissertation I am making a documentary about the families and friends of veterans who suffer with PTSD and similar mental problems following serving in the war. I want to know about the effect this has on the people that love them and what support is out there for people like you.

I think this is a really important issue that has not been addressed and it needs to be brought to peoples attention. What you all go through must be so hard, yet the media mainly seem to focus on the plight of the veteran but not their family and friends. Some of the things I have read on here are really touching. My brother is a Captain in the Marines and he is going to Afghanistan next year, I cant imagine what it would be like if he suffered any kind of mental distress because of this.

If there is anyone out there in England who would be willing to talk to me/meet me for a chat about this I would be extremely greatful.

Thank you very much for your time,

Kind regards,

Sophie x

Sophie, can I ask a silly question for a second? Is there an actual assignment in the journalism course that focuses on this topic, or is it just a topic that you have chosen because it is dear to your heart? The reason I ask is that you are not the first journalism student to approuch this forum and make that exact same request. I do not fault you for using any method available to you to do your research. This is an open forum, and as such available to you (keeping in mind copy Write Laws) to view. I'm just curious if the journalism world has for some reason decided that this is a good topic to let their students cut their teeth on. I guess in away, it would really show the skills of the student. Actually getting a sufferer that is prone to mistrust and security issues to open up to you would be a great indication of your skill set. I would suggest though that you consider what you are asking. This is not going to be an easy issue to research. I myself have stopped posting my own feelings and stories on this forum simply because of the last journalism student that came here. It made me realise how easily my words could be used against me. My bad, lesson learned. Yet I am not unique. I have to beleive that the majority of sufferers would feel as I do. We do not trust easily. We fear alteriour motives and exposure. We suffer from trust issues and anxiety. Good luck in your search. I hope you haven't bitten off more than you can chew. Please do not quote any of my posts in your thesis.

Hi Sophie,

There is a Studies & Research part of this forum where you should submit a written request. There are copyrights and other legal issues that will have to be taken into consideration. and the owner of this forum is the individual that will answer your questions.

At this time I am locking is thread so you can make your request through the appropriate means.

Thank you.
Debbie
