News Manchester this time

This is the first time in a long time that I have been able to watch more than a minute or two of news coverage of a terrorist attack. I was worried that it might cause my PTSD cup to overflow. Instead I find myself feeling more positive about my fellow humans. So much of the coverage here has been about how people pulled together in the aftermath. People helping one another. Cabbies giving lost kids free rides home. People refusing to let an act of hate push them towards hate.

Manchester and Mancunians have my respect.

I wonder when they will be at the point of checking peoples cortisol and giving hydrocrotisone injections within 6 hours to those with low cortisol who witness/are survivors of such events - it seems that is the way the research is heading regarding prevention of PTSD onset and improved fear processing- wouldn't it be great that at least for these event based traumas there might be a prevention in the nearer future for those with the supposedly contributing low cortisol

@anthony

For many of us where there have been multiple terror threats any gathering has not been a good idea for a long time- when school and work become your risky activities it is truly a sad state of affairs- my school guard jokes that the door is locked because it is "demarka (bomb) season" meaning there are reported credible threats and then the next week its not - we have to joke and be more casual - otherwise we will all lose 20 years off our lives through stress and hypervigilence and that guard stands between any threat and my children every day. I am glad he can joke and trust in intelligence for our relief. Army public school Peshawar lost 132 children and 9 teachers and guards to terror in 2014 and yet we send our kids to school daily and hopefully we will still be able to have courage and go to Ariana Grande Concerts and to go to our jobs. Who is winning the war on terror - my school guard the kids who go to school each day and anyone who buys the next concert ticket. Mind you I think twice about going to female stand up comedian open mic nights here - there are braver people than me here who stand up to the mysogyny and hypocrisy of terror as a career choice and do it with a laugh- like my school guard my everyday hero who has a gun (probably with no firing pin) but his real weapon is a wicked sense of humor and a determination not to be afraid.
