Medication...what To Expect?

A day later, had a awake thought process of my dog being put down.

Unerved is an understatement.

When this event happens for real.... how do I prepared for the loss?

Greetings

Two months on meds and here is my evual.

A month in I felt very normal.....

Two months in and not so much.
Two emotions have burned through the med shield.

The first is what I call stupid anger, this is from inanimate objects not operating as I feel they should, example, at the back of the van...... and the wind shuts the door, and it hits me in the back...... well of course my anger flares and I fling the door back..... and then it attacks again.... so I hit it.

I feel better for teaching it a lesson, but my hand hurts.

The second and more important issue is, hyperviligance when the roads are other than dry.

I'm exhausted at the end of the day most times.

My question is, increase meds?

Greetings

The Mrs and I had a long talk about meds, she still wants me to call the shots, but she is getting more vocal about my actions.

Her major concern is being vocal in my sleep, she does not know how to approach me, she fears me becoming violent.

I told her that we need a fingerprint gun safe that is programmed to her.

She is mildly opposed to this.

All of my emotions that have put me on meds, have burnt through the 20mg celexa shield.

Will see what happens on my next appt..... two weeks.

Your psych meds should always make you feel more like yourself, not like someone else.

I am on Escitalopram 40mgs (max dosage) and it has helped for a couple of years, though now I'm starting to have what you call "burn through" though not as bad, when my moods started to become a problem again my doc hesitantly put me on 50mg seroquel to help stabilise me. It's helped but not fully-but it's just been ten days on that.

Before my "burn through" and moods starting to go haywire-It helped me quite a bit. I wasn't getting angry at stupid things (like throwing a pen across the room after five minutes of trying to get it to write), I wasn't assuming things that went missing were stolen or moved just to mess with me, and I wasn't crying at night anymore. All of those symptoms dried up enough that I attempted to low down and lower my dosage.

Not a good idea. When I went lower it was like a smoker going cold turkey-not surprising since irritation and irrational anger are part of my PTSD package. So I keep on it.

If your meds are not working you need to see your doctor or get a psychiatrist to look into other options (where I am my GP is permitted to prescribe psych meds), perhaps add in something that will help.

Psych meds are a very much try and find what works area. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. You need to be open about your concerns so that the right solution can be found for you. If you start getting concerned, you do neeed to bring it up so they can be adjusted, as a number of things can affect our brain chemistry in a variety of ways, even just an environment change can alter it.

Do talk to your doctor and bring up your concerns.

I hope that a solution that doesn't have you and your spouse concerned can be found soon.

Researching if cbd oil will be a good fit.

Especially on my shoulders, that's my point of angst when things get tight.

CBD can work for some, but for others it has some poor reactions. I've seen folks it's been a lifesaver and I've seen some get twitchy, sweaty and have memory blackouts (granted they were also drinking and merely taking the oil when they felt like it, not as a prescription dose at proper times).

It's good to see you're looking into things instead of just going with suggestions. A good bit of research into a subject (as long as you vet sources) can save a ton of headaches in the future.

I listen to robert scott bell, who is a natural avenue doctor.

He talks about this alot, my diet is attributed to his extensive knowledge on non traditional medicine.

Thanks on your reply.

Had a conversation with the mrs on any changes with the new dose.

I noticed last night that I'm using one hand to drive, and my road scanning is not as frantic.

Twiching is down, and I'm generally in a better state of mind.

The Mrs said I'm not yelling in my sleep anymore, and her fear of me is less, but not gone.

That's great...looks like the celexa is helping then.

Keep in mind that you still need to look at data and studies to determine if avenues of care are actually functional and provide any benefits, as well as any side effects they may have.

A lot of people look into naturopathy and similar regimens and don't understand that "natural" doesn't equate with "side effect free". For example, Saint John's Wort, an herbal antidepressant, can cause heart and liver failure.

This is aside from the fact that many alternative therapies have no oversight to ensure that they are safe, or even as advertised. A number slip through the cracks because they don't fit within traditional categories, and as such there's no legalities covering it should someone get gravely injured or ill.

I do agree that it helps when you're involved in your own health choices, but that doesn't mean you can't get medical information and supporting data to make the best choice for you. I recommend Google Scholar for researching the efficacies of known treatments and potential side effects-try reading six or seven studies and comparing the information to get a baseline indicator of what you might be in for before you start. The papers you find will be peer reviewed and vetted for accuracy not only in information but also methods-many will also include things like sample sizes and extraneous factors that were taken into account (small sample sizes are almost universally statistically insignificant).

It's dry going but you can skim a lot of it to get to the relevant parts.

Do take care of yourself, you're the only one you've got. :)
