Historic Melbourne City Tram (brown tram) in front of Flinders ST Station and Federation Square (to the left).

You can ride this tram around the city loop for free and it tells you some of the sights.

In this old laneway, if you look up you will see big hooks which they use for lifting furniture and large items into the top levels... the old cranes still operate today.

The doll is adorable but why would they be banned?

They were banned because they were classed as racist - being dark skinned. I think the name is still banned in New Zealand hence the one I have being called a Liq'-rish Kidz.

I used to have a Golliwog when I was a child but you can't get them now due to the racist thing, I never saw it as racist and still don't but perhaps the name is offensive to some?

Great photos guys, the covered arcade looks a lot like one in Chester.

The arcades look like areas in the US that would be "Historic Registry" areas that have been restored rather than torn down. Modernized keeping within the history of the original settlement.

One to remember for my world trip :D. I love old arcades like that. Are the shops mostly independant rather than being part of a chain.

In the UK, Golliwogs were changes to Gollys, also a racist reaction.
