I don't know if this is related but I have Chickens. I had asked my daughter to put them up for me one night. Ok? Good. Now...The next morning I let them out not knowing the back gate had been left open. So I round then back up, get them in and start counting. 15. Count again. Oh no! I'm supposed to have 17! Im missing two chickens!
Hubby comes home to I form me that we aren't missing any, we only have 15. We had 17 a month earlier....But only 15 now. I knew that but NOT THAT DAY

my brain has turned into the Bermuda Triangle.... information goes in, and is never seen again.
Like this sentence...:-)
don't know what to think about that, I feel dumb, lost. Even people from my surroundings feel confused because they think I'm smart enough but sometimes I act like complete retard.
@acoa82 I think being on a survival mode we focus on that which is absolutely necessary. Everything else is being filtered out, this ofcourse isnt helpful in our day to day life. As long as the fight last our organism will react in such ways.

Hi,
It might be worthwhile looking at some of the dissociation threads too. When I first started figuring it out it was life changing for me to read others experiences. Text books just don't do it terribly well when it comes to dissociative stuff I find.

From what I have gathered from reading:
Difficulty concentrating can be because you are dissociating to some extent or other. Or because you are in emotional overload and when that happens the brain is in amygdala and not in logical thinking and concentration mode.

Difficulty learning- again, sensory overload brain which has overridden thinking cognitive logical brain. Add sleep deprivation.

Scatterbrain - again in emotional overload or intrusive thought mode. Or dissociating to some extent or other. Only half there. Or a quarter. ;) That has resulted in me walking into traffic, leaving stoves burning. getting on the wrong trains so many times it would be hard to describe in words, losing things, loosing trains of thought, not having any words to start, being late, not understanding conversations, Walking through buildings with my umbrella up, walking out of supermarkets without paying and only remembering at the last second etc etc. Thats without dropping things, falling over myself, dropping etc. Its a mess isn't it?!

It’s like there’s a big black hole inside my head. Wiped the skate clean of memories but also nothing new can fit in yet. I miss reading books and retaining information so much and the worst if it is when I go see my counselor, it’s like I’ve forgotten those important points Ive tried to tell my brain to store and it doesn’t. So I fear I’m wasting money each session. Does anyone think therapy still works even if memory is bad? Anyone have this happen after therapy?

yes it still works even though one has so much brain fog in daily waking life. And the brain does store the information even if we temporarily forget. It will all come back when you need it to. Hang in there, you are not wasting your time, money or efforts.

First things first...I am not a therapist or a psychiatrist or doctor of any type. I cannot give you medical advice, but I do have C-PTSD from childhood trauma and I can share with you my experience.

Before I started therapy, my mind was troubled, full of questions and thoughts, that would spin round and round inside my head so that it was difficult to think straight. Attempting to process trauma with no positive coping tools, is very trying, especially to the mind.

I believe there is a lowering of concentration with PTSD, but I don't know that for sure, so it would best to ask a doctor about it!!! There are, I think, Cognitive difficulties associated with C-ptsd, but I would recommend you read up on it and again ask a doctor or trained therapist.

I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME) and that can cause "brain fog"; (word-finding difficulties, concentration problems and short term memory loss) etc. and Fibromyalgia, which can also cause brain fog....i.e.; (difficulty with thinking, concentration and focus).

After I started therapy, these symptoms increased. There was so much to process and so much on my mind, that I became more forgetful, less able to focus my attention, and I also had trouble reading and retaining information. Simple tasks became difficult and learning seemed harder too.

I wanted to see if I had ADHD or learning problems and so I had myself tested. I was a bit slower than I used to be, but my intelligence remained average, (or above), and no learning problems were discovered. *(I did find that it was easier for me to read, if paragraphs were limited to 2 or 3 sentences at a time).

The results told the doctor that although I have all the ADHD symptoms, I did not have true ADHD...because it was caused by other medical problems.

I still have concentration problems, difficulty focusing, retaining new information, word finding difficulty, etc most likely due to a combination of PTSD, CFS, and Fibromyalgia, unrefreshing sleep, and advancing age, but it is not as intense as it was, when I was early in recovery! ..I cope with it, when it arises, by remaining aware that it is not my fault that I have these difficulties!!!!

I think in the early months and years of a recovery journey, it may be common to run into cognitive difficulties but if you want to know for sure if you have learning problems or ADHD, I suggest that you get tested for these things so you aren't left guessing or depending on others, (like myself for instance);):D

I wish you luck and hope that something I have said is helpful to you!!!

Thank you for all the answers. It's very helpful. It's really great to have you near at least this way.
Did anyone tried meditation ? I'm a little interested in it now. I have read recently that meditation or yoga can be helpful. It requires daily practice for at least a few minutes.
