I think that it's a spoof. On the most extreme bounds there are women who want to reduce the male population to 10% etc but I don't call that mainstream, just crazy. The problem with ideologues to me is that all these movements develop so many factions, there's so much infighting, dissent and extremism that there's never a clear goal. What begins as a viable ideology then becomes so corrupt or at least confused that most people who self identify don't quite know who or what they are associating with. I see that the majority of self-identified feminists, at least here are just for equality or fairness.
The academic version, to my most casual observations, is quite antimale. I only observed one class and through anecdotal reports of guys who failed women's studies due to having other viewpoints. I was almost forced to take a (...) studies class but thankfully, the administration realized that I had an associate's degree and all that was waived. When I wanted a black or white one sided topic shoved down my throat I took science and math lol.
I personally don't want anyone speaking for me, not in a Latino or Black or men's or women's movement because I am capable of articulating my viewpoint and the extreme ideologues shout the loudest are the best known and are quite frankly damaging and toxic in many ways to real change or at least dialogue. Edit: debate is mostly comprised of ad hominem attacks, strawmen and other logical fallacies.
I have PTSD but I don't need safe spaces or trigger warnings so that I can exist in an echo chamber, that doesn't mean that I must hear out KKK members etc. When I do want a safe space and I don't because I don't want to be crippled anymore by avoidance then I create one.
The divide between all ideologues has grown, for example democrats and republicans don't even exist on the same planet. There's little nonpartisan comprimise, little discussion between them and too many factions, subfactions and agendas. The greater good is no longer an attainable goal because of the systemic alienation that happens.
It's become for all sides of these factions in all of these movements 'if I want it legislate it and if it offends me ban it' real change is not possible through dismissal and mutual alienation or black and white labeling; it is possible through open dialogue, research and comprimise. I am not holding my breath
