The one thing that you might try is to google therapist in Tn. You can also narrow it down to your locale, or with in say 25 miles. You could also ask for referrals from your local mental health office.

Yes, it is hard to find a good trauma therapist, but it isn't impossible. You just have to keep at it. Ask people that you know in your community if they know of a good therapist. Ask your pastor, priest or whatever. Your reg. Dr. may have knowledge of a good therapist. Word of mouth is usually a big help also.

Hello Tom.

I know how painful a bias can be. I suffer bias a lot for not being American in USA.

I do not see a single male response here. Will this one be banned?
Although you have suffered bias because you are a male with a problem that is predominantly a female problem, not considering the opinion of females in this forum because they are females is also a form of isolating yourself. Please, consider that I am not attacking you, just trying to show you another point of view.

3) I want the same options available to anyone here. A therapy group (of any type) that does not reject me as a result of gender bias has never been available to me.

4) Are there any males on the site here? Would like to hear from some of them.
As far as I know, this forum have a lot of males, either with PTSD or carers, starting by the owner.

Here there are some threads started by males:

I am with Ursa on this Tom, read as much as you can here, try not to look on who it comes from or their gender, and when you feel the time is right post what you need to and ask.

But please try not to feel threatened here as no one wishes to harm you-ok. Just read as much as you can, because there is a wealth of shared experience - that you may find can really help you.

Read each thing as if it were written for you and maybe it will help you to work through some. It has helped me so much to be able to come here and do that. And maybe you will see that some good advice will come to you from all kinds of unexpected sources-ok.

Try to let the gender issue go...but be kind to yourself also, as it is not an easy thing to admit or even to face and you did good to talk about it here. So please continue to try to be as open as you feel able to ...there is no pressure here Tom.

take care

And also Tom something else that might be worth reading because you have written this;

"3) I want the same options available to anyone here. A therapy group (of any type) that does not reject me as a result of gender bias has never been available to me."

I hope this can help you some. Please give it a try here, it has really helped me, and regardless of gender I believe it can help you also.

The wings foundation (wingsfound.org) makes groups of males and females. They are not in your area, but they might help you to find out some kind of resource that is there.

Thanx Ursa.
A lot of you gals think I don't want to listen to your advice, but I registered here for just that reason. I see some real concern and sincerity in some of the wording written here.

Finally, I am convinced I will have to leave the managed care bible belt region of middle Tn. to receive any positive form of therapy. Non existent here.
Just have to figure which direction to head off into.

Tom S.

Ursa; Nothingmay come from it, but this is a very useful link. I wish I could find more like this at least close to my region.
