Well I just picked up the scripts and the name of the drug is desipramine. It's an anti-depressant! Yup well that's going right in the trash bucket!!!!!! I can't take Tricyclic's because they cause me to spiral and become suicidal, and after coming off Cymbalta a little over a yr ago there is NO WAY I will ever put myself through that again.

I have already placed a call to my neurologist and I am waiting for him to call back. I left a message that he had better come up with something OTHER than an anti depressant because there is NO WAY I am going on them again!!!!

Back to square one on this!

Dr just called and the ONLY treatment for this type of headache is Anti depressants. What a crock of shit!!!!!!! I have headaches due to muscle contractions in my neck. How about a muscle relaxer?????

I am so sick of Dr's pushing the anti depressants for every G.D. thing lately. I wonder if I went in with a case of the shits, if I would walk out with a script for Anti depressants. This sucks!!!!!!

I can't take Tylenol because I have mild Kidney failure and have to watch what I do take. I guess it's suffer with the headaches. Shit!!!!!!!!

Thanks Pand, but I don't want to take anti depressants, mood stabilizers or any of that crap. I want to be treated for headaches, and NOT be given a script for this crap.

Are there meds specifically for muscle tension headaches out there???? Or is the answer to just write a script for AD's and send you on your way????

I feel like the Dr's just look at you, figure that you are just a basket case and give a script for AD's. Is it ALL about stress these days??? Am I missing something in the bigger picture?????

Wen,

My husband was experiencing horrific migraines a year ago and our doctor gave him a script for Propranolol, which is a beta-blocker - I'm not sure if this drug would help but thought I'd throw it out there.

I've also heard of several people on this site who have taken propranolol.

P.S. - when I was having those headaches last week, I would take a flexiril and it would help immensely - of course this is a muscle relaxer and maybe you need to push your doctor to give you something like that.

Rach,

I do have Soma which is a muscle relaxer, but can't take it during the day as it is way to sedating for me. I take one and it's a Soma Vacation for me.....I am like Gumby and out like a light in 20 minutes.

I have taken Flexiril in the past, and I am going to ask when I see my NP later this month for a script. The headaches are pretty much gone, but as I told you in a email, my neck and now shoulders feel like they have been beaten with a baseball bat from the exercises.....

Thanks Rach....Actually I am going to call the NP NOW!!!!!

Are there meds specifically for muscle tension headaches out there????

Excuse my ignorance but this caught my attention and curiosity. Are these headaches related to PTSD or stress in general? Have you tried any other means of relieving them? Reason I ask is I get shocking headaches some times which are related to my back injury. Sometimes walking can get them to go away as the longer I walk the more I stretch and the pleasant scenery distracts me helping me relax my muscles. Other times I have to go to the Osteo.

Just curious.......

Nicolette,

I'm not really sure. My neck and shoulders have been like bricks for years. I have a very hard time relaxing them and my back too. I also have fibromyalgia, which I know some people believe is just another aspect of PTSD.

I have to have a Brain Wave test on Oct 9th and he asked for a Sleep Deprivation one, where I stay up all night before the test..UGH!!!!

I have had sleep issues since I was in my very late teens early 20's. Insomnia was one of my biggest issue for yrs. Now, it's just very broken sleep, never restful.

I'm just not sure if the sleep and the muscles are related. but I am willing to try ALMOST anything to find out.....

i am new to this but i will tell you that i have dizzyness with my headaches and even see little rays of lights when my headaches are at there worse.

That is awful She...I wish I had more answers. Have you ever tried imitrex? Just throwing another suggestion out there. Acupuncture? Iridologist or naturopath?

Pand,

My Neurologist gave me a script for Zomig, for migraines so things are ok in that dept. On the 9th of Oct I have to have the brainwave test and they also told me that I had to have a hearing test. Well yesterday I happened to look at the papers and this hearing test is NOT your average hearing test...UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

It called a Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response Test. They hook up eletrodes to your scalp and ears, you wear a tight fitting headset and they pump in LOUD clicks and noises. OH JOY!!!! I have startle response, this ought to be fun for the first few minutes...

I'm not sure what my Neurologist is looking for or if this will just confirm his diagnosis on me. All I know is this sucks......
