I'm so sorry for your pending loss, @Lionheart777 - I know you would spare her the pain if it were within your power <3 I'm glad you get a chance to say goodbye to your sister, and tell her how much she is loved, although I know it's so painful for you to watch and not be able to fix it. You are an amazing brother to lend her your strength while you can. You are both in my thoughts.

I am amazed and so totally grateful for all of the compassionate responses. My sister is hanging on much longer than doctors expected, so I'm grateful for every extra moment I get to spend with her....still it is hard to see her struggle with her cognitive functioning and wrestling with her desire to keep living.

There is no doubt that this is the most heart breaking thing I have ever encountered and that is saying a lot considering my past traumas.
Thank you all for helping me to cope with the pain and sadness.

Thank you so very much everyone!!!

Sister is coming home today, she will still be under hospice care and we hope that she will be happier in her own room and bed. She is very confused at times, she has trouble forming sentences and gets tripped up on her words, but there are moments where she is more coherent.

Although it is a struggle for her she can be such a funny, sassy woman and she really gets us all going. We are stressed by the situation, but are happy to have her at home rather than the hospital or a nursing home.

Yes, you are right it is lack of oxygen/high carbon dioxide levels and medication. She was on morphine, but she is being sent home on a 72 hour fentanyl patch, which is pretty strong pain medication.
